I've smelled Intrigue a few times and it was always consistently fragrant, a sweet lemony fragrance.

Angel Face has a beautiful scent, and the deer must like it, too. They just ate all my AFs blooms last night it was so yummy. Ebb Tide, though purple, not lavender, has a lovely sweet scent. Young Lycidas is highly scented (another deer favorite). Diane

Neptune is fragrant, but, like Angel Face and Intrigue, needs treatment with a fungicide here.

Intrigue, BB rescue, produced fragrant flowers. Unfortunately, the bush is a hot mess. I shan't be sorry if it does not survive the winter.

St. Elizabeth of Hungary has flat, old fashioned double flowers, of a mauve pink color. It does quite well in my zone 5 garden. I was able to improve the color with applications of molasses dissolved in water, about 1TBSP/gallon H2O.

Blue Moon and Bering Renaissance/Eleanor are both deliciously fragrant (sweetly spicy and fresh) for me, with BR/E being perhaps the most intense (not that BM is by any means mild). Parfum Flower Circus, which kinda looks like Rose de Rescht only with Blue Moon-colored outer petals, has a pleasant fragrance as well. I also grow Twice in a Blue Moon, but so far it has leaned more towards a pale grayish pink than BM and BR/E, both of which have shown a truer lavender/mauve under optimal conditions. Nice rosy perfume, though. Blue Bajou has impressed me with its color, but has practically no perfume.

Luckily I don't have to worry about deer here. Has anyone had experience with Charles de Gaulle, Vol de Nuit, Lagerfeld or Stainless Steel? Angel face and Blue Moon are definitely on the list and I am glad that others have confirmed. There is room for about 4-5 in the lavender section I plan to put into the garden next spring. I got heritage last year, but so far the plant has been weak, twiggy and brittle without much growth. Glad to have found this forum!

By the way, the plant in the photos above was barely a year old when the photos were taken, so you won't have to wait long for blooms. Diane

I have Lagerfeld and have grown Stainless Steel and Sterling Silver. Lagerfeld is fragrant, but I think it does better in warmer climates. Both Steel and Silver weren't vigorous. Again, all needed regular fungicide treatment.

I have Angel Face, Intrigue and Lagerfield. I could smell Lagerfield more than the other two before allergies worsened.

I didn't find Lagerfield as one poster had said, "One bloom will perfume the whole room." But a bouquet gave off a nice fragrance.

In my yard, Barbra Streisand is most fragrant, then Young Lycidas, then Neptune and Stainless Steel, then Blue Moon, then Angel Face and Fragrant Plum.

Does anyone where one can find Bering Renaissance/Eleanor in the US?

Bering Renaissance has been sold in the States as Eleanor, I believe. I don't know how widely available it is over there now, but I can share my experiences, which might help you decide whether or not it is worth seeking out. Fragrance, like I said, is strong, and one bush can perfume my 100 square foot greenhouse. I grow two, one in the greenhouse and one by the house under the eaves. Both have healthy foliage and seem to resist pests as well as fungus well, but the flowers of the one under the eaves are disfigured when caught in the rain (which is frequent here in Denmark). Blue Girl is my most fragrant lavender bluish toned rose!

I've only had Charles de Gaulle since April, growing it from a band but I would recommend it as one of the best lavender roses for fragrance. It seems to last quite awhile too. Love Song isn't very fragrant but I really enjoy the color. Charles Rennie Mackintosh can be lavender but more of a mauve color and is mildly fragrant.

Just picked up silver shadows today! Haven't heard much about this one, but the scent was pretty impressive at the nursery.

After seeing and smelling Fragrant Lavender Simplicity at my last rose society meeting, I've decided to order it for Spring.

My CDG, Neptune and Stainless Steel are the most fragrant in the high, dry desert.

It doesn't have the best reputation, but Blue Parfum has wowed me with its soft mauve colour, wonderful fragrance, and large bloom size. It did nothing for me for two months, but started growing when I moved it in mid season. It doesn't seem to be a particularly vigorous grower, but the foliage seems healthy.

My two absolute favorites are Charles de Gaulle & Shocking Blue (though doesn't seem to be commercially available anymore). Charles de Gaulle has the best color, Hybrid tea form, and lovely fragrance. Shocking Blue for a Floribunda rivals hybrid tea in form just slightly smaller, with lovely color, and the most amazingly sweet lemony perfume that is to die for.

HU-, while this thread is 8 years old, it's not a bad one to revive. I agree with you 100% about both Charles de Gaulle and Shocking Blue. My two original Charles de Gaulles and two original Shocking Blues were from 2003, and I bought two more CdGs in 2019. Both are just spectacular roses in every regard. I have other must-have fragrant lavenders and purples, but I just wanted to agree with you on those two. Pics coming below

@James Miller My two original Charles de Gaulles in 2003 were from Vintage Roses. The two CdGs I got in 2019 were from Palatine. Alas, Vintage gone for over ten years, and Palatine gone now just this year. It might be worth trying Rogue Valley for it. I've had good luck with them lately, but they're sketchy on what they have in stock.

I have two Fragrant Lavender Simplicity Roses -- and they are both very fragrant, very pretty, very healthy. Sadly, I have no photos easily at hand right now. Habit is tall, upright. Blooms are a bit on the smaller side. bloom in sprays. I agree with the comment 9 years ago that Love Song is a gorgeous lavender rose. Mine is always healthy, takes small rests between bloom cycles, then puts on another good show.

Diane -- your Angel Face is gorgeous! Mine is still settling in. Planted it last spring, inspired by your photos. And, my little Young Lycidas will go into the ground in a few months. I'm just a Diane wannabe!

Deborah, you want to be a grumpy old lady like me? I'm very flattered. Newer Angel Face is doing well in a back flower bed, and blooming a lot, but my older one in front is the obsession of a hungry deer which keeps munching it and its neighbor Young Lycidas. Poor YL has had an awful year, starting with cane borers. I just know it's the same irritating deer. He/she only eats the blooms on those two roses. No deer pesters any other front yard roses. I'm not used to having to spray repellent in the front flower beds. Grumble grump. I hope your Angel Face likes California, It seems like such a Cal rose.

New AF had the advantage of starting out as a five gallon plant, already in bloom when I picked her up at the nursery. She's pinker than the old Angel Face, and I can't figure out why the color difference, but I have a theory for later some time. My daughter grew a hedge of the Lavender Simplicity, and it was lovely. Newer Angel Face likes being Mickey Mouse.

When Angel Face was brand new last summer, she loved it on the patio, but in September 2024, she went into the ground and likes it there, too.

CDG has thorns, but not as much as others, fairly sparse medium size thorns not tons of small ones. Also beautiful dark green leaves. Very vigorous, strong grower, mildly susceptible to mildew, no rust for me in Bay area CA.

Well, Deborah, you're just not grumpy like I am, and I can assure you that you're not 80 years old, which I will be in about 3 weeks. The thought of that annoys me and makes me exceedingly grumpy. Also, I've seen your photo on a Christmas card and you appear in your garden tour video. You are not 80 years old! But you can bake me a cake to make me feel better. Diane

@DDinSB (Z10b Coastal CA) Pretty much echoing what HU said above. I looked at two different plants of mine, and one had a good-sized cane with no thorns at all, and the other one had a few sparse medium sized thorns. No annoying tiny thorns and no monster talons like something like Marilyn Monroe :-D

@Diane Brakefield I agree re: Angel Face. I have it growing in a 15 gallon pot and the fragrance wafts and wafts. The bees love her and so do I.
