Yeah, I went from five bulbs to 18 last winter. I had no room before I collected all those. And for some reason I recently ordered another 15 new bulbs for this winter. Which brings my total to... 33??! Ack! What was I thinking?! Ah well, I don't need the dining table for eating on, right?

Oh boy do I understand!!!! Very often I let my mind wander and it being so small...it gets lost, that's when I get into trouble and order lots of hippies that I don't have room for. Believe me, I feel for you but sadly...there's no cure. Just go with and have fun.

Haha, it makes me laugh when people with no room are ordering double digits worth of bulbs! I of course kept the number at a sane 9 new ones and even gave one away as a gift... but then was entirely too excited when the giftee admitted they had had no interest in flowering it again next year (imagine me rubbing my hands and saying excellent, excellent)

I don't have plans to add to the flock, and once the foliage dies down I'm sure they'll take up no room at all and if I have to I'll just keep them dry until March and let them bloom outside in April.... that's my plan, and honestly it's no trouble at all, and if I did add another one or two this winter who would judge me.

I knew this would be an understanding forum :)

speaking of kitchen tables this was ours in March. Looking back I'm surprised my wife let me get away with this, but since the whole kitchen was ripped out anyway I guess a lot of things flew under the radar....

Here is an embarrassing confession. I've been known to order mine plus a couple for "gifts" only to keep them for myself. Usually justify greed by saying to myself "they probably wont like them" or "it will create work for recipient". Ashamed, so ashamed....

Oh boy...you got it bad. I turned my porch into my "inside" greenhouse many years ago. Now I'm using re-purposed oak to make tables to sit in front of "all" my windows. I think we both need therapy :-))))

I stopped counting when I moved pot #375 into the greenhouse last year! Some pots have 3 bulbs, others have 10. Many just have a single bulb. Yay!!

I don't count because if I do my husband will say, she's got ____ bulbs and I'll be totally embarrassed as nobody but you forum guys understand!!! We all managed to find each other from all over the world on this forum!!♥♥

I know there are several of us who are totally over the top!!!☻☻☻

I just want to thank the 'over the top' growers. Nothing I do will come anywhere close so I feel extremely responsible with just the few bulbs I have. I'm starting to think 49 and under is really just table decoration and not even worth being concerned about. I'll see how the winter goes and if I do get distracted and order a few more there will zero guilt :)

I'm really happy to be part of this forum :-) I started with one bulb 3 years ago. Until then I only bought the red and white cutflowers and even rejected bulbs people offered me. As if I had known what would happen! This bulb I let into my life in a moment of weakness. First it did nothing for 3 month but then it flowered and it was a Picotee. Since I had never seen such a beautiful flower before I only wanted to know whether there are more varieties like this. Next year I ordered 10 bulbs and gave away 8 (!) as Christmas gifts. Last year I only gave away 5 out of 18 (and one to my boyfriend who lives with me). Of course I also bought some more here and there and started to hybridize. This years lists aren't ready yet...

I suppose we have to give up our flat in a few years and move to a house with a garden where I can have a greenhouse. Or to a country where I can grow them in the ground...

Anja...I totally understand and agree with you :-))) It always starts so innocently...then it becomes and ADDICTION kinda like hippeastrum crack!!!!

Eventually it gets to a point that you start bombarding co-workers, family and friends with the "extras" you have no room for only to make room for more bulbs and seeds. It's such a vicious cycle and the only thing to do is give into the addiction and enjoy them :-)))))

Fred, I already reached that point! I'm thinking where my mum could put some more bulbs (Just guess who gave her all the others!).

This disease overcomes all boundaries.........and exacerbated seasonally .... give me the pills!

Oh there's no cure...the pills are just there to take the edge off :-)))) I totally understand about the living situation, I have brought in most of my plants for the winter and they're all over the house. Now I have to keep the doors closed or my cat will make salad out everything and use the pots as her personal toilet.

I like the looks of that! Just because I'm trying to hold off on buying amaryllis doesn't mean other bulbs in brown bags aren't arriving at my doorstep, and opening up the box and imagining how nice everything will be will never get old :)

I have to agree...I really do like getting new bulbs in the mail. It's kinda like Christmas each time I open the package :-))))

I remember when I only had 1 amaryllis....1991. Then in grew to 3, then 8. From there....hmmm maybe a bar plot is in order!!

I'm quite happy to have a garden because I can order many many bulbs to plant there. And one never knows if a tulip will flower again next spring so one simply has to buy new bulbs every year...

Elena, this is a very nice collection! Did you order them directly from Israel? I'm still looking for a source in Europe where I can find Ruby Star... Please post pictures when they bloom!

Can you cut the stems back instead of letting them dry off. I have several with very leggy leaves. I'm bringing them into my classroom for the winter and wondered how to get them to rebloom. Thanks

I would let the stems and leaves dry on their own, that way they'll continue to feed the bulb for the next flowering season. Also, if you can put them in a cool and darker place for a couple of months, you'll have a much better chance at getting them to re-bloom.

Annja, now you can buy a Ruby star on ebay, I saw an ad in USA.
