I think so too. I like the color of the cabs much better than white. I love the darker hardware too.

I agree with Oly and Yaya. I was also going to say that once you have some other items around it will give a different view ( I mean like a bowl, a cutting board, a decoraive or functional countertop item).

I can see the cabinets are not white white but the wall color is really tripping it up. So often when we look at something new in its isolation it looks harsher. I know you have the cabinets and backsplash and counter, but the wall color is glaringly throwing the cabinets off color. The pix Oly posted look lovely to me. I think something subtle like the hardware can really work it for you- and certainly if you paint the wall a color other than white I think you will be very pleased. Even the monotone one that Oly painted does look great (with the ivory wall color too).. I think it's going to be lovely.

Totally agree with dark hardware! That will sharpen it right up. My backsplash is not a perfect match with my cabinets and I was pretty peeved at first too, but I have beautiful dark shiny hardware and I don't even notice now. As in--I never think about it. It all just works.

Hi all, thank you for the comments so far. This is a new build so I had no way to view samples in my lighting. The paint is a white flat builder paint. Also, this is the exact same backsplash used with these cabinets in the model home and it was gorgeous. I think that's why I'm so surprised.

Change the backsplash and paint the walls a cocoa/mocha brown. It'll be gorgeous.

It will it will really be ok I think once everything is in place. It's easy to focus on stuff like this when things are going in piece by piece. Think of it as a layered look--whites, not WHITE.

(Someone said the same to me about my kitchen and I like it better than a one dimensional white now!)

I think they look beautiful. Perhaps try using a marble backsplash. Maybe polished botticino? We used crema marfil in our kitchen but I think it loos more like botticino.

I would also think about using a darker finish for your hardware. Once, you make a few changes you might find you like the color of your walls. They go very nicely with the cabinets.

The cabinets are really beautiful. I agree, darker hardware and a different wall color will make all the difference. I'd leave the back splash for now.

Please show the designer the pics that have been posted here and ask that your hardware be replaced with darker. The two that Olychick shows are gorgeous! Paint on the walls plus darker hardware will make your kitchen gorgeous.

What are you planning for the floors? Can you step back and take pics that show more of the room to us?

I'm on board with the yeah sayers too. I think that once you have all the other things in place, wall color, appliances, hardware you'll see just how pretty the color really is. Ever since I saw Sarah Richardson use yellow in one of her designs, I've wanted a kitchen with yellow cabinets. I think it's a really warm, inviting and beautiful look.

Tell us about the lighting you have in the kitchen. Changing the light bulbs could make a change in how yellow the cabinets look.

I agree with Graywings. Before you do anything, go to a quality lighting store and talk to someone about different light bulb options. The color of the bulbs often make a huge difference.

I think the colors are actually quite lovely together...though they may not be in the way you'd hoped or expected. You just need a new color inspiration and you'll see how lovely those shades will work together. I suggest going to design seeds and search by the pale yellow color and you'll be surprised at what inspirations will pop up. These are just a few. And the beauty of this is it will get you into an area of unexpected colors and those can be the most stunning of all and will get you out of anything plain or usual.

I agree with Tib...I think the white walls are the problem.

Before I read what your decorator said, I thought oh how warm and lovely that color is.mWait a few days and let the shock of it not matching your initial vision wear off than move forward from there if still disappointed. I think the color is yummy!

What color lighting (bulbs) are you using? I love the cabinet color and would change to dark hardware, move in/decorate and see then before ripping out the tile. I would repaint the walls before removing the backsplash, since I rolled back up and saw it isn't white.

You expected a creamy white. This is a shock. You are not alone. My Dove White cabinets look very different from the ones I saw in the showroom. Here I have natural light. Although the showroom did have windows, it didn't have enough natural light to truly show the color of the cabinets.

I agree with Allison, Graywngs and Fraker. Lighting is everything. We experimented with the LED lights and found one that tones down the brightness of the white. They offer the range of warm to cool. You want one on the cool end of the spectrum.

I agree with Oly about the hardware.

What is the counter? Hard to tell the colors in it. If there are gray's you might be able to do a light gray for the walls like one of Annie's design seeds..

I am hoping you are considering hardwood for the floors. It is a really good neutral and won't affect the other colors as much as trying to choose an actual tile color.

I would wait with the backsplash. I think it probably looks better in person than on my monitor. Paint and do the hardware firstMy kitchen saga was similar to yours. Knowing the white was stark, I was talked into a brown giallo counter! DH liked it and the men at the granite yard said everything goes with white! No. I put a white backsplash in only to rip it out immediately. I did find a cream tile that transitioned from the white to the brown. Now, I see this combo all over, but at the time it was very difficult and I had to go to many tile places.

It will work out in the end. Keep posting here. You will usually get a consensus and that will lead you in the direction you need to go.

I love the cabinet color. It's not bright white but I don't think it looks yellow. Just a very pretty cream color. In fact, do you know the color? I might want to use it for my next kitchen :)

I agree with using dark hardware. I just painted my cabinets an off white cream color and the soft iron hardware looks great and provides a nice contrast.

Think about painting your walls something other than white. A darker color will make your cabinets seem more white, while a lighter warm color would give you a softer tone on tone look.

The counter is Blue Platinum (Azul Platino) which has flecks of gray, black, blue, and white. Our particular slab has more black and dark gray than I was expecting but I really love it. The floor is a medium walnut laminate. Here is a picture of the flooring it hasn't been laid in the kitchen yet but it's the same:

As for lighting we have canned lights in the kitchen, our builder is energy star certified so they are pretty low voltage. There is lots of natural light into the room via windows.

I love your cabinets. They don't read yellow to me at all. I think dark hardware would look lovely. Maybe change the wall color. I like the idea of a green or blue as others posted.

I think they look beautiful and I love them. However, this probably doesn't make you feel better because you want what you want--new kitchens don't come around every day so you want to really love and enjoy it! I totally get where you are at. And the countertop? Don't even get me started! GORGEOUS!!!!!! If you are unhappy, I would try a different backsplash. Something softer than the white and I love the idea of darker hardware. If you have recessed cans, look to swap out some bulbs with 3000K or 3500/4000K temperature LED bulbs. Some of the 2700K bulbs can be excessively yellow and there is no uniform standard among manufacturers. It may help a little to tone down the yellow undertones, but since your walls and BS don't appear to look as warm, the lighting may not be the cause. But, it is worth a shot as different surfaces and colors do tend to react differently.

I'm in a distinct minority but I don't like the dark hardware - it is going to darken the entire room, and I'm assuming you were hoping for a light kitchen. I would NOT go with any paint that is more warm colors in the yellow/brown range - that is not the look you wanted to begin with. If you go with a green (Farrow & Ball's "Cooking Apple Green" and "Lichen Green" are gorgeous colors), it will counteract the yellow but still feel fresh and light.

When I first read this post, my heart sank for you. The exact same thing happened to a previous poster in this forum... and it happened to a friend of mine. But, holy cow, look at these photos! I love the photo Annie Deighnaugh posted! Your house will look beautiful; change the backsplash. Please post us the photos when you paint, etc. Everyone will want to see!

I agree with Anglophlhilia above. Darkening and "muddying up" the color scheme is not going to give you the fresh, light look you were going for.

Wall colour change and dark hardware as per Olychick and Tibbrix. Will totally change it up. It'll be beautiful. Leave the backsplash.

It's going to be okay, just take a deep breath and choose any of the options on this board and you'll have a gorgeous kitchen. You didn't make a mistake, it's beautiful. What is your favorite color and what colors are evident in the surrounding rooms? Show us and we can recommend a few colors that will look super. I'd wait on the back splash as you only need to introduce a small bit of white around the room to be cohesive, it's the details on the countertops that will pull it all together. You're good.

I'm another that agrees with Oly's suggestion to switch out the hardware for something darker and richer looking. It won't darken your whole kitchen, it'll just really compliment the colour of your cabinets. I can see that painting your walls to something different, but don't feel it's necessary to change your backsplash, which is already crisp and clean looking.

Agree with Anglophilia about wall color. Look at Annie's design seeds and choose a scheme that you like. A light blue/green on the walls will tie in with the granite and give you an overall light/beachy feel, for example.

Warm colors will pull out the yellow undertone. Cooler colors will neutralize it.

We had our maple cabinets professionally painted a creamy white. Then changed out the countertops to a whitish quartz with some very subtle grayish in it. Our floors are oak hardwood. We chose a RH paint color called Sea Green, which is a greenish, bluish, grayish color. How would something like that work with your countertops? We have similar cabinet hardware to yours. Don't despair....I was expecting whiter cabinets, too, but it's all worked out.

If the manufacturer of your cabinets is local, check to see if you can have them glazed on site. There are many glazing colors but a warm raw umber would be 'safer' than a burnt umber as a burnt umber, as the BU could be darker in the crevices than you would like. I have glazed kitchen cabinets and after 8 years have never tired of them. Just another side of the coin.

I also completely agree with painting the walls before you do anything else. The wall color will reflect off of the cabinets and choosing a green, or even a light grey/neutral with a green undertone, will completely change the color cast in the room. Be careful not to go too blue - it will look nice if you do, but it won't tone down the creamy yellow base the same way a green will.

I would look at ben moore's gray owl, titanium and winterwood. They all have a gray green with a little blue. But are still neutral enough to use throughout your house.

I really dislike green and had a beige neutral paint with a green undertone in my last house and I'm just really burnt out on the greens. Is there another color I could consider?

Did you look at the design seeds I posted above? I really like the colors in the squirrel picture...that warm copper with the taupe and the soft gray is a lovely color combo and would look terrific with your flooring too.

I think your kitchen is gorgeous and I really like the cabinet color. I think I would wait to do anything until the floor is in. Then I would put your appliances on the counters and step back and look at it. Then I would sleep on it. You might not need anything, or you might just need a different wall color. I really love the kitchens that are posted above, but I think it's too soon to say you have the wrong cabinet color at this point.

I'm a sucker for jewel tones...this palette would look gorgeous with your kitchen

I want whiteand really do not think I will be happy with a warm tone. Unfortunately the cabinet style I wanted only comes in a similar cream color as you have shown. I don't think I will ever be happy with a cream/yellow color regardless of how many others think it is Ok so I am very interested in your outcome.

Quick update here is the flooring:

See! I was right! It looks fantastic! I think it looks better with flooring than a stark white would have. The paint color really looks nice with that granite too.

Yeah the decorator said off white would be better with that flooring. That's actually the backsplash, not the paint. They still look pretty yellow on the wall next to the stark white paint, hoping that appliances will tone it down.

Sorry- I meant cabinet paint color. The backsplash looks good too! Yes I'd wait to get everything installed and set up but so far so good!

Pretty much everything looks off next to builders white.

The yellow will always be accentuated against a brighter cleaner white.

In your shoes, I would fix the lighting, replace with dark hardware (and fixtures if you can manage it), and I would color match wall paint to the cabinets. The kitchen isn't bad, but I think it has a hint of "a try and a miss." Color matching the wall paint will make it feel more intentional. Nothing can make the cabinets white, so I would embrace them and try to achieve something a little different.

The flooring is beautiful but I think that light hardware is throwing it off visually and that could be making it more difficult to envision anything else. If you stick a couple of dark knobs on a couple of doors next to the lighter ones it may help to see how it will look.
