What to use to re-string beads?

Help! Yes, I am crafting-impaired and am not afraid to admit when I need help. I am attempting to re-string beads that belonged to my mother. They are light, about the size of small jelly beans, and probably plastic. I'm using new small metal beads between them for spacing, very similar to the ones they had originally. The problem is that I don't know what to use for string. I tried the nylon thread recommended at JoAnn Fabrics, and they broke right away. Next, I tried unwaxed dental floss with the same result. Could the metal beads be cutting the line? What should I be using? They are pretty light, and I'm afraid they won't drape right on wire. Thank you!

I used to work in a bait and tackle shop, we occasionally had beaders buying fishing line.

Berkley fireline was popular. It is (relatively) expensive. 6-8# test was frequently requested. Thin diameter, and supple for its strength vs other lines.

I prefer Tiger Tail and similar coated beading wires. Monofilament and such stretch with the weight of the beads over time. You can look at Tiger Tail here. It's flexible enough that your beads should hang evenly and look good!

I went to a bead store and the proprietor examined the beads and found a coated wire for me. I hope this is the answer. Thank you all.

Sealavender, it sounds like you found something similar to TigerTail. Coated beading wire lasts really well, so I think you'll be happy!

Looking at the back of the package, it is TigerTail! I just finished restringing the beads and they look great; I tried them on, and it held up! I can't wait to wear them.
