I am planning on doing an all white U-shaped shaker kitchen (full frame overlay) and am facing a difficult decision re cabinet sizing on my uppers. I have 106" ceilings which means that even with 4" of crown and placing the uppers 19" off the counter, I'm left with 47" uppers. My husband and I are tall but when I measure it out - they just look way too tall - especially for some of the narrower cabinets. Under no circumstances will I float the cabinets - they must go to the top. I'm thinking I have three options:

1) Decrease uppers to 40" (still seems really tall), increase crown / sofit like the attached picture which I took here off Houzz (thank you to that designer). Is there a "standard size" for uppers?

2) Stack a 12" cabinet on top of a 36" cabinet (two boxes). Probably my best option but I don't have an unlimited budget. Ideally I would pane and light and the upper box but I know this would add a lot of cost and I don't have a strong need to "display" things.

3) As cabinet designer for two doors on a single box (12" / 36"). Both doors would be solid shaker style b/c I probably can't afford to finish the insides of all the boxes. Does anyone have experience doing this? Is it more affordable than #2?

Also note my ceilings ARE NOT LEVEL. My house is from 1920's so there is an inch difference front to back. They are going to try to level the ceiling but you never know. If anyone has pictures of extra tall doors I'd appreciate seeing how it looks. Thanks so much!
