Terra-cotta stone

Interested in the terra-cotta style stone for fireplace. I like the look of the shiny stone versus the more rough looking stones and I like the variations size for the stones. Can you tell me why some pictures look as if all stonework is shiny and other pictures look more rough for all stones?
