Pool side Palm tree garden -- Need Help

I have pygmy palms in tree spots of my
Pool side garden. All these 3 spots now bare and looks bad. I want to
cover all the bare spots with plants which will give stunning
colorful look.
I live close to LA,CA. If anybody
already did that can you please share the design idea with ,list of
plants and diagrams(if you have).
