Here's a subject I've been curious about--and this is probably the only sane and safe place to ask, after seeing how this topic blows up next door lol---did we use to clog up C&S, Gill? Was the reaction to spinning it off the same as the often vitriolic reaction to the suggestion to spin off jades?

Hi Pagan, in answer to the above...yes and yes! As you rightly mention, till April 2013, if memory serves me correctly, Adeniums were part of c/s and I for one found it annoying to have to trawl through the posts for the Adenium info and connections to like minded ppl.

Whilst one could argue that every individual specie of plant could warrant it's own dedicated forum, I would imagine that's exactly how a gardening set up like this is started, with a few topics that get added to over time so it evolves to be what it is today?

Yes, a few die hard c/s enthusiasts seemed a little peeved that we split away saying in their opinion there wasn't any need for it. I contacted GWeb as it was then and was told they wanted evidence for the need. I asked in the c/s forum for Adenium fans to reply to a thread I made to see if they wanted a separate forum to c/s and would they pledge their support by using it. The thread received pages of support. It was looked at by the powers that be....and the rest you know!

I have always though that jades could do with their own forum as at times every other c/s post is about them! It makes things so much easier I think.

Any takers, Pagan??

Bragu, Elena, it's a pleasure. I know lots of posters on here both past and present have not only gained knowledge, but also plants, seeds and more importantly friendship from using it, so that makes it all the more worthwhile.

Not for me to say, Gill! I only just gave away my one jade plant.
Spinning off adeniums is a slightly more obvious thing to do---they're only succulents if you squint lol You proved the detractors wrong, though, since here we are thriving.

But if jade growers want a separate forum, I don't think opposition should make any difference. Go for it!

I also only come here and next door (I don't know why I think of C&S as being "next door"). Well. Sometimes the ponds and aquatics forum because I was rebuilding a pond. But that's like two towns over in my head for some reason.

I remember when I first started frequenting the Adenium forum. I was introduced to such a great group of people and this continues.

I remember Karyn helped me so much, miss her. Everyone was so helpful and supportive. Miss Laura too, my special and dear friend. Many people are still here and many pop in every once in awhile. Like friends you do not see for a long time and can pick right back up when they do drop in as though they had where always there.

Having such a diverse and Global group of people that come and make this forum what it is today, keeps the interest going throughout the year.

I thank Gill for making the "Adenium" forum one of it's own. When there is as much interest in one Genus such as this or any other. It allows those w a particular plant to follow and add, without it becoming a marathon to try and find a thread related. This then makes it easier for "new" participants to find what they are searching for, making Gardenweb/Houzz a place they want to frequent. This in turn would be true for any forum.

If the numbers support having a forum explicitly dedicated to one Genus/Specie, then why not.
