"PapDon2" is beyond doubt very attractive, but it suffers from a short-living bloom. There is no bulbs "around" and available respectively.

Please 1)build up a stock of H.papilio and 2)try any TETraploid that you can get the pollen of, on your H.papilio. INCLUDING the occasional pollen on the bloom of DOUBLE hippeastrums. You might eventually obtain something which is even "better" (in YOUR perception) than mine "PapDon2"

Thanks for the reply :-))) It seems that PapDon2 has inherited it short bloom life from it's papilio parent because my papilio does that every time she blooms. Beautiful flowers for a few days then *poof* they start fading. Thanks for the pollinating advice, I have a few ideas for this coming flowering season so keep tuned.

Thank you for responding! To everybody who reads this, and who will bear it in their mind and finally realize it (make it reality) - the following CRUCIAL advice. You will obtain up to 120-140 seeds per seed pod from H.papilio but you will have to inspect these seeds at best immediately at the point were the seed pod is just starting to split open. You will see that the seeds after pollination from TETraploids are mostly if not all just "chaff" - you will have to carefully examine the bulk and find the very few if any viable seeds with a sunflower grain shaped embryo in them. I had - repeatedly - 100% failure, that is not any viable seed, from H.papilio pollinated from "Orange Sovereign" and from "Appleblossom". I DID have just TWO viable seeds from H.papilio x "Donau", TWO from H.papilio x "Grand Cru" and THREE from H.papilio x "MinPic", and the third seedling thereof ("PapMinPic3") is yet to produce its "maiden bloom"
