You need to add color. Pick some accent colors and get some throw blankets and pillows for the couches.

I will be at Tj max looking for teal or aqua throw pillows - area rug I have my eye on a striped gray and white or a white fluffy flokati.

Is your intent to stay monochromatic? I see this space, and feel like it could use some color in pillows and accents. The art on the wall seperating the kitchen from the dining room has some beautiful colors to pull from.

I'm a fan of monochromatic and textures. But I do appreciate that gorgeous teal from time to time.

I think having a few smaller flokatis, like the ones that IKEA sells, and putting them on the backs of your chairs would look really neat!

I also think that putting a colored lamp shade on your light would be cool, but it would have to have a decent liner so that it doesn't start reflecting that color everywhere.

Do you all think I should get an 8x10 rug or a larger 9x12? The one shown was custom cut at 10x12. ?

I like the placement of your chairs in the second picture more than in the first picture. The front two legs should be sitting further in on the rug. I don't know that you'd really be able to accomplish that with a smaller rug, unless you move the sofas to the edge and didn't have as much overflow of carpet towards the fireplace. Is there a flush hearth on the floor?

Is get 9x12 some sort of pattern with some other toned in it besides greys. I would not do teal pillows from tjmax unless u got real lucky there. So I ever see is lattice print, ikat or word/phrase pillows there. Room is too elegant for that. Go higher end on your pillows and wait till you gave your rug to decide.

There is no hearth, and I'm replacing the rug bc it's old and I don't like the way it looks anymore. I could buy the a 10x 14 and have it cut down to 12 again?

Since you like monochromatic I would add more texture. It looks a little flat right now. I would add the texture with pillows, a small table for a different lamp, and throws. Maybe also a rug with some movement to it since you are thinking of replacing the rug.

The first rug comes in 9x12 in a light grey and ivory, which I would rather have and the second is 9x12 gray and white wool Which one?
