Grow light distance

I'm growing with LEDs and my specific light is advertised as covering a surface area of 3' X 3' during vegetative and 2' X 2' during bloom. Does this mean my light should be closer while my plant I'll blooming? I did a couple of google searches and can't find a definitive answer.

Without knowing the exact specifics of your light, it is usually best to get them as close as possible. It is hard to outdo the intensity of unfiltered sunlight. But, you don't want to get them so close that you "cook" your plants from the heat given off.

I would get it down to about 1 - 3 inches of the plant foliage.

When I am starting seedlings I also keep them 1 - 3 inches. I don't use them after blooming. By that time they should be outside. Heat should not be a big problem with LED's.
