Why do you need a dish rack at all?

Haven't used a dish rack in many years. If there are pieces that require hand washing I set them on a towel or dry them immediately with a paper towel. There's no need to have a dish rack be a permanent fixture on the counter.

Do you mean an upper cabinet type slotted dish holder or a dish drainer that you put on the counter?

I cook all my meals from scratch, which means I use a lot of dishes. I also don't wash my pots and pans in the dishwasher. I hand wash them instead and air dry them.

There are dish racks that hang inside of a sink if you have room. Beautiful kitchen!

Start washing up in the DW I always wash my pots and pans in the DW they stay looking new forever

You can put a dish rack on the island and dry them when you need to and put the rack away when guests come etc.

I use a dish pad. It's basically like a big quilted pad, about 3x the size of a place Mat that you lay wet dishes on to dry. That way I can just pull it out of the drawer when I need it. Got it at Bed Bath and Beyond.

Get rid of anything that can't go in the DW. And two DW's.

I have a large single basin sink and recycle a lot, so I often have plastic and glass bottles that need to drain someplace. I also hand wash my pans as per the instructions that came with them. Not hard because they are ceramic, but they don't go in the dishwasher. I have a Simplehuman dish drainer that has built up sides and I place this in my sink off to the left. The one side with no openings faces to the right - the best side to help prevent things getting splashed. When recyclables are mostly dry they get put in the proper receptacle and pans get set on the stove to finish drying, but they all go into the drainer first for a while.

The in-sink ones are great. They can be easily put away when people come over and I think they look good. Make the kitchen look like it's actually used, not just for show. I also hand wash all my pots and pans and some other odds and ends. Don't change how you do things to conform to your kitchen. The dish pads are also nice. I use one for my large frying pans and cast irons that don't fit in the rack very well.

I cook lots too, and my knives and cast iron pans and a few other things are always washed by hand. I have sink grates I sometimes set things on to air dry and/or I wash and dry on the go. Most professional chefs I've observed clean a lot as they cook. I aspire to that... someday... but I'm far from perfect. The knives, though, I always just wash/dry and put away. Takes almost no time at all once you get used to doing it that way. Therefore I personally don't miss having a dish rack.

It looks like you have a double sink like I do. I found one that fits inside my smaller sink.

Agreed pots and pans don't fit, but most of the things that I quick rinse and the recycling fit in there until the next morning.

I have the exact same kitchen layout and agree that there isn't an ideal place to dry dishes beside the sink. What I do is use my cooktop as a drying rack. It forces me to keep to stove clean and saves space.

Not ideal but it works great for me.

There are several companies out there that make beautiful dish racks. Look to add a sink base cabinet liner to the bottom of the cabinet so you have a dry storage space. Nice kitchen!

I have an idea for a solution to this dilemma! I am going to try it in my new kitchen remodel. I'll post it here if it works! 🤞

I didn't have enough room in my island for the hidden dish drying rack that I wanted. However, a 15" cabinet (or larger) would take care of this.

Buy a rev-a-shelf similar to the one pictured. Place a cookie sheet on lower rack then a cookie cooling rack on top of that so water will have a place to drip. I would also add a the same inside bottom of cabinet as a precaution. Let me know if you do this and if it works!🙂
