We moved in to this house a couple months ago, and progress has been slow. I need a boost to get going. The entire house needs decorating, and my budget is very limited, and my time even more so.
I want to get the upstairs living area fixed up. At least a "phase one". This question is about the kitchen dining area. it has been painted a pretty taupe-Behr Merino Wool. I have purchased fabric to make curtains so I will begin with a specific question- I plan to do simple panels for the dining room window. I want to use the same fabric for the kitchen and am wondering what to make for that window, a balance, cafes, or something else. Also, how high to hang the rod. I think it should be at ceiling level instead at just the top of the window, but then what do I do in the kitchen. Wouldn't it need to be at the same level since they're on the same wall? I suppose cafes could be at midway, but there are also honeycomb shades which I plan to keep. and the view, while not a capital V View is very pretty out the back.
Any advice is appreciated, and not just about the curtains. As I mentioned, my budget is very small. My dining set is 90s oak reproduction with horseback chairs, and some true horseback chairs I have collected. my table didn't make it well through storage so I am looking for a big oak farm table and will probably have my daughter paint the chairs a distressed white. she wants to paint my carved china cabinet as well, but I'm resisting. it is dated, but I love it, and I use it for China storage.
There is also the issue of the stainless steel fridge and the white oven and dishwasher and that is the primary expenditure I am saving for. It is a terrific kitchen with lots of storage but I want to make it pretty and welcoming.
One more thing. with the painted horseback chairs and carved oak hutch, what kind of barstools do you recommend?
I know this is a lot to tackle and I don't want to wear out my welcome because I have a lot of house yet to get to!
