I tend towards simple backsplash so the pretty countertop and backsplash don't fight each other:)

Both of the backsplash are reading a little pink on my computer and not a really good color match with the countertop - but monitors can be off.

if you want a travertine backsplash, go to an actual tile store (although sometimes Lowes has decent stone choices) and look at some quality travertine. It comes in shades of pale to dark brown. If you really like an accent tile with them, look at these examples. It's up to you. if you like them, then keep it simple.

haha,,,jennifer I didn't even notice that! Emma,,,did you just have the granite installed or was it already there? just wondering,,,if you just had it put in and knew you wanted to tile the wall, could have left out the 4" matching splash.

I would remove the granite backsplash, fix drywall, and then put tile just on back wall for this spot. Your biggest challenge will be getting a backsplash that works with your cabinet color. It looks creamy, but there are tons of different tones. Here are a few that might work for you. I would keep the color plain, but you might try some nice "shapes" with matching grout.

You have to take a door with you to match to tile, because of the large numbers of variation in color and then take a tile sample home to test in your light in your space. This is a 3-3/4" tile square with some texture to the surface. Something like this could be interesting. This might be too white, but a cream color would work.

This has some of your lighter cream colors and might work, and laying it on the diagonal could be interesting. You first have to find a color that works. Is there more area that needs to be tiled? Can you post photos of total space?

You need to take the 4" backsplash off before you add another backsplash. Then, because your countertop is so busy, you need to keep it plain and simple. Off-white with matching grout

I agree, but unfortunately, you cannot take out this 4" granit strip without damaging the countertop.....so, you need a softer and more solid colour for the tiles...

I agree with the Cream Arabesque Glass Tile, Sheet suggestion. the current bakesplase and countertop are at war

My understanding from reading about it, but not from personal experience, is that the 4 inch splash is not hard to remove. I would check with a stone place first and get directions.

Thanks for all the comments. Here is the rest of the kitchen space. Sorry for the mess...I'm painting cabinets antique white. I don't want to remove the current 4-inch quartz backsplash. Just don't want to bother with it. I like the off-white subway tile option. Or maybe I should just fix the drywall and don't add another backsplash??

totally up to you. How was the paining process?You doing the lowers as well? and the trim on the window too?

Painting is going great. I'm using General Finishes Milk Paint and High Performance Satin Top Coat. LOVE IT! Yes...doing lowers too. I was undecided about the window trim. If I paint the trim, do I need to paint the entire window sash too? ugh

I would paint the frame, but I think you could leave it too. wait until the doors are back on and see how it looks. I believe she used Linen and dead flat topcoat

Yes, you need to paint the frame or it will look like an afterthought. I really think you need to remove the 4" piece. Or better yet, fix the drywall, add undercounter lighting and just paint. Save yourself some money. Two backsplashes just looks silly.

New kitchens use a full backsplash, older kitchens use the 4" piece, and there is nothing wrong with that. Mixed up kitchens use both. Don't look mixed up!
