Need help with my Family Room

We are remodeling our lower level (walk out basement) and getting a brand new mono stringer(metal) staircase. At the same time we would like to install a new floating floor(engineered wood, 0.5" thick). The old floor is concrete. Which should be installed first, the metal stringer or the floating floor ?

it could go either way.

the floor will need to have the expansion gap around where the base of the stringer meets the floor, so whether the stringer goes in first and then you install the floor around it, or you cut the floor with the needed expansion gap after the floors in.

If it was me, i would put the stringer in first.

Thank you, we feel better about installing stringer first as well, the stairs installer was the one that suggested the other way but he never installed them on a floating floor. We could probably ask him to make an escutcheon plate that would cover the gaps.

It's logical that the stair will outlast the floor so I second that recommendation. In either case, the stringer won't set on the floor and there will have to be expansion space around the base.
