Sugar Maple Transplant

There are a ton of young sugar maples on some of my families ground that are anywhere from 3-8 foot tall. The land was logged about 5 years ago. Before it was logged there were only a few and most of them were great big. Now there are younger ones all over. Anyone ever had any luck transplanting a hard maple out of the woods ? I'm in southern Illinois.

Trees are transplanted from the woods quite a bit. Survival rate primarily depends on technique. You may want to consider root pruning the trees you want now, then move them in the spring.

Take one as small as you can get now would be my vote.

Keep in mine I don't have any heavy equipment forbthis. Every time I have moved a tree bigger than 3 ft it has been ALOT of work.
