Start new cuttings from some of the tips to grow over winter. Make sure to check for insects.....esp. spider mites inside you might want to spray them with a systemic insecticide prior to cutting.

Or you could just buy new ones in spring

I can't imagine that Impatiens makes a good houseplant for the winter. Has anyone had any luck with it?

Situation would have to be like the greenhouses these are grown in before being shipped to retailers, with the same bright light, moderate to high humidity.

By the way I wouldn't spray anything with a systemic I was about to handle and bring inside.

I tried to overwinter impatiens inside and had to deal with white flies. Not worth the effort so no longer do that. IME buying new ones in the spring is far easier and plants will look better than the ones kept over.

I tried it one year. I potted them then soaked them with a diluted insect killer. It took a lot of effort to keep them healthy all winter. After all that effort, I was able to set out plants that were twice the size as when I potted them back in the fall. They were 5 - 6 times larger than what I would purchase as new in the spring.

I lost about half of them through neglect in the winter so whether or not the work was worth it is debatable.

emero, what about the quality of the plants, though? Big but scraggly isn't what I would be happy with. And what about their performance when you did bring them outside?
