floor plan help (just beginning)

Ok, I measured my current area yesterday and drew up this floor plan as best I could. (furniture not to scale at all) I currently have a galley kitchen with an eat in area at the end. I'm wondering if it's feasible to put my kitchen where my dining area is, open to the living room with a big island. Put my dining room where the eat in part of the old kitchen was, and then possibly have a mudroom/laundry in between? I could probably let the laundry go, it's currently in my basement.

I'm not sure where to even start. There's currently a window in the dining area that I would like to make 48" french doors out to a future deck. I don't want the stove or sink in the island which means that the sink and stove have to go on the same wall so how do you decide which will be the focal point? I'd like to add a window over the sink.

So I guess my questions are:

  • Do you think there's a enough room to put the dining room where the eat in kitchen was?
  • How much space would you steal from the current kitchen and add to the current dining room to make new bigger kitchen?
  • Is mudroom/laundry feasible, is there enough space?
  • Do I need to move the back door over?
  • What would you do with the current pantry closets?

I hope to DIY as much as possible but I know I need to find someone to tell me if the wall between the kitchen and living room is load bearing or not.

Thank you so much for your help and input!
