Where and how much is the rain water system? Also what is the capacity?

The tank is made by BH Tank and holds 550 gallons costing about $900. Our rain water system is pretty basic, the gutter downspouts link to the tank and the over flow on the tank is connected to drainage pipe that leads to a rainwater garden. So other than the tank nothing to expensive or fancy.

Was any thought given to re-use the rainwater for washer, toilet flushing etc.

Yes , unfortunately the system became cost prohibitive so we had to settle for only using the water for the garden...for now. We do have a plan to retrofit a diverter to the cistern and use the rainwater in the bathroom at a later date.

I share your concern on the cost. Does the BH Tank include a filter for leaves and other particles, thereby requiring some minimal level of maintenance? Thanks for your answers.

Our tank is 500 gallons. You can call BH Tank and work with one of their techs to figure out the size and best locations for drains and valves for your specific project.

I just called BH Tank and was disappointed to find out they are not making the rain barrel tank in the photo....anyone know of another resource for a similar look??? Thank you, Gail

I just found out that BH Tank was recently bought by American Tank Company you can get info on the tank in the picture by calling 1-877-655-1100. Hope this helps!

The picture is deceiving...doesn't look like 550 gallons? When I called they said that 550 gallons is around $1,900? Thank you for your help tho.

Gail just want to follow up on your comment, maybe I can better clarify. Is it the size of the tank or the cost? If it is the size I can give you actual dimensions of the tank (4' in diameter and 6' tall). If it is the cost keep in mind that the tank was bought in 2010 and the company that produced it has changed over.

In a recent project we switched up and used concrete culverts as our tank and topped it with american tank cistern caps just as in the studio project. This might be an alternative if you are looking for a more economical solution for cisterns. I am happy to answer any further questions!

The water tank right there, is it powered by gas or electricity? This question came to my mind after seeing one that was puffing out steam. I'm bot sure why it was puffing out steam but it just got my attention. http://www.kamloopsheatingandairconditioning.com

The one pictured has neither. The water gravity feeds to hose and over flows to a water feature on the other side of the building. I used a similar tank on another project where the pump is electric and can be powered by a solar panel. I don't know why the one you saw would be smoking. Let me know if you have any other questions.
