Celeste fig eyes (seasonally opens??)

My celeste figs had closed eyes all summer long, but my autumn crop have all opened eyes. Is this a seasonal variation (temps, sunlight) or based on my care (watering, fertilizer, etc)?

It's that I keep getting a bunch of live ants in my celeste figs with open eyes... I was wondering if there was something I could do to grow them with closed eyes during the fall.

It's a 5 ft tree (3 yr old?) in a 5 gallon pot.

Too much water will open the eyes of figs grown in containers and even make them split open in the fall as the weather is cooler especially at night compared to summer season in many areas.

That's very helpful info.

I haven't really figured out the watering schedule with my new fig tree. During the summer it needed to be watered at least twice a day and now I've been watering every three days. I'll back off on the water.
