I'd definitely get the longer one. I think it will be fine for two reasons: the doorway in that wall, and the fact that the sideboard is a solid mass while the table is open and mostly a surface area.

I think you'll want the larger sideboard for storage as well as giving you great surface area to decorate for holidays, put food on for a buffet style meal, etc.

I would get neither of those chairs. Ladder backs are notoriously uncomfortable, and the seat on the other chair is also very uncomfortable because thighs hit the wood in the front corner and it actually can be painful, but is always very uncomfortable. I would also stay away from cane and rush seats.

Instead, I would look at solid wood chairs, where the seat part is a thick layer of wood, which makes it very comfortable, and overhangs the legs.

These are what I'd get. Heavy, they are very comfortable, the library/school type chair, easy to wipe down...

Thank you so much for your feedback. I appreciate it. What color would you do on those chairs? Hmm. I'm wondering if RH has similar chairs? Just for continuity of finish. I really don't love any of the chair options. We don't want it to feel stuffy which is why the wood.

Would a simple Windsor chair work? I always liked the look of those but not sure it works with this table.

Are you getting the table in the antiqued black?

I think what would look cool would be the table in the antiqued grey oak, the sideboard in the antiqued black, and the dining chairs in the black.

Or, table and chairs in black and the sideboard in the antiqued grey oak.

And a Persian rug in warm colors, rust, navy, ivory....

I didn't see any solidly wood chairs on the RH site. And their chairs are SO expensive! Yikes.

I can't answer the Windsor chair question because I loathe them! Lol. Another chair I think is uncomfortable and unattractive. Also overdone, IMO.

That's a beautiful color combination. I like it. We were going to go with Antique Coffee but I'm going to talk to my husband about that. I'm going to look around for chairs too. I haven't bought the table yet because I just wasn't excited about the chairs. We were also thinking about the French vintage side chairs, but my husband was afraid they'll be too stuffy.

Our rug which I plan to keep has very muted greens and tans/taupes.

The antiqued coffee is beautiful. That would be my choice if I was buying that table. I'd then get the sideboard in the antiqued black. I prefer to mix them up. To match-poo doesn't work for me. I think looking like a set "cheapens" the look, rather than each piece being able to stand on its own.

Those chairs are nice and would really go well with the table. They would definitely create a much more formal atmosphere/look, though, than the casual you say you want.

I really like this chair, although normally I don't care for upholstered DR chairs, but I think these are a beautiful hybrid of simple elegance and the heft that table needs. And they are Hooker, which makes very good furniture.

I like those ladder backs. What about them makes them more comfortable? The slight tilt to the back? I like Hooker. We considered the Sorella dining table. I like the dentil molding. But the color is too light. I really appreciate your help!

Yes, the bend in the back, and the more solid seat with the carved-out seat, as well as the seat overing the legs, i.e.: the legs do not come up to the side of the seat, which makes those things so uncomfortable for anyone other than the skinniest person. Also, the weight and heft of that chair makes it more comfortable. the heavier the chair, the more comfortable it is.
