I agree about the curved splash it is not what we expected but not sure what to do instead that is in keeping with the look?

I suggest a simple frameless rectangular mirror without the bevel. I would consider having the counter top recut without the backsplash. The style does not go with your bathroom, sadly.

Hard to work with company or person you are paying when they display an attitude when you question or do not like a choice. However, you need to love what you are buying and going to be using likely for a while. Take a minute to make a list of items you are not liking look on line for pictures of what you were thinking and then make sure you have someone with you when you approach the person or company.

I would not accept those mirrors and like the idea of the large mirror with the barn door wood frame.

Yes Diane it has been very difficult working with them. I have never even met the owner except through a nasty phone she made to yell at me for not trusting them (even though they have made several mistakes which luckily either one of the trades or we caught) but especially to remind me how many awards she has! The designer they assigned to us just doesn't seem to have enough life experience to handle people who have hired her and question anything.....

my husbands says he just is exhausted from talking with them about anything and says just leave the mirrors for now we will deal with it ouselves down the road.

Husband is exhausted, I ask so sorry for you. This should be fun getting a space as you envisioned and are paying for should not be exhausting. My advice don't let the designer or owner bulky you anymore. Find your strongest friend to be your rock as you challenge what is not right that way your husband can be the absent bad guy who demands the change (ha ha). You do not want to accept what is wrong then pay again later to fix it. I had to become that person with a few subs to getting items completed correctly. This was after realizing how much I had to complete or redo just trying to get along or be done with some of the trades. I have a new custom bathroom vanity and linen cabinet that needs the doors remade and all new hardware. At least I was able to get 1/2 of our money returned, but would have preferred to have what I paid for done right. Good luck to you and stand tall have a written list when challenging it does make a difference

I actually like the mirrors, but if they are of poor quality get them changed. I agree with the curved backsplash. I'm sorry you are having such a hard time. But it's your money and your house, you should be getting what you want

Why would any consumer venture into a remodel and not select all of their own items. Why would anyone be so naïve as to assume that someone else is going to make selections that they like and not have every detail worked out up front. It's hard to complain when you don't spend the time in the front end being involved and picking out everything.

those pendant lights are just sh*t... im sorry they are so off, cheap and will cast terrible shadows on your face. Your designer must like things to "look" good for her award pictures..... because they are not functional or even desirable for use. I'm mad for you, have her call me I have no problem suspending her last paycheck until the items are handled to your preference. remember you hold the pocket book. In times like these, dont sign off on things, dont write check and most of all dont back down.

Brickwood - I absolutely agree! Unfortunately we chose a company to work with that was not transparent in many of the design choices. Hard to get into but they were basically a "we say so" attitude because they are the experts we believed choices they had in the renderings were of value that they said they were. We absolutely spent a lot of time discussing options....Like I said too much to explain all that has gone on working with them. Not a company I would ever work with again that's for sure.

Downbytheriver - i absolutely agree on the pendants they were supposed to be a different finish completely in fact she admitted she ordered the wrong ones but alas we have been bullied to keep them - I know ridiculous but like I said we are done disputing with them to no avail. We will have to fix down the road

Hope you've held back $ owed on the contract. I agree that mirrors don't look good, they do look kind of cheap (sorry) & what's with the lights hanging down??? That's something I've never seen before (except over bars & kitchen islands) ... I'd definitely suspend giving them any more money until things remedied.

I think it looks to be a beautiful room, I think sconces on either side of those mirrors would look so much better than pendants, or leave pendants and add sconces

Leave the piano in the corner, but face the keyboard to the room: easier playing and better acoustically.

Just so you know what you're dealing with, I recommend measuring those mirrors and Googling the size (height and width) + oval beveled bathroom mirror to find what they sell for and compare to what you were charged. The bathroom looks high-end from the photos but those mirrors sure don't! I'm going to bet those mirrors retail at $100 each (and they got them wholesale, so do the math). That should give you some leverage when dealing with these "experts" - I am sure you paid plenty more than that! Also, I think the mirrors should be framed and that is a matter of taste. Either pivoting metal framed mirrors or the barn door material will look better than what you have. I agree that the backsplash isn't a good shape, but I'm more concerned about the lighting you will have with those pendants. I never put pendant lighting in a bathroom over a sink - it's ALWAYS sconce or wall lighting. You will see shadows on your faces and won't be happy in the long run (unless you have a vanity area for makeup). Stick to your guns. They work for YOU, not the other way around. Your opinion is the most important and I urge you to stand your ground. Perhaps it is easier for you to document the concerns and send them via email if your'e not confrontational. Plus that will give you a record if you ever have to dispute charges. GOOD LUCK!

What else is left to do? Looks like something around tub needs to be completed? I would just have them finish the important parts (like if there is more tile or plumbing) and then reject the backsplash, mirrors, and light fixtures and then fire them. Those things you should be able to complete on your own the way you want them.

Hudson- arrrgggh... You're stuck with a "re-do" or "live with it". An option:

#1- Ditch the "splash", and don't let your contractor/sub tell you that's "tough". EASY to fix. You have such a calm space, that I might even think about bringing the subway tile from the shower to do a new splash on the vanity.

#2. Mirrors- It's hard for me to tell, but if you say they look "cheap", against your other featured materials, I be they do!

Consider the possibility of one, big mirror. Glass, in that way, is actually very cost effective, at least in my area. Also consider framing it in a way that you could bring the wood from that beautiful barn door all the way "in"- something that really "marries" the space. A "nubby" element there would be very cool.

#3. Pendants- How does the light suit you? Again, lighting can be inexpensive to replace- go online. So many places that sell great fixtures at wonderful discounts, and often the salespeople have good design sense.

Above all, don't give up. You're almost done!

i really think you should consider what champ camp said. that is the best solution. also, you really should make sure others don't suffer the way you are. once your done with them be sure to make your impressions known. yelp, is best b/c they cannot remove a bad comment. if she admitted that the pendants were the wrong finish.......you need to take advantage. Im sorry. be sure to tell us the name of this company lol.

If you are doing mirrors that are oval, do something a little more special, like in our design below. And perhaps try using sconces to help with lighting.

Hi design detectives, i really like your idea of more "special" mirrors and agree the deisgner should have used different wall lights instead of the hanging lights. Unfortunately we will likely be asked to pay for her costly error. The company has never admitted any of their mistakes and looks at it as a "choice" of ours rather than a functional one.

I hate to say this but you sound like a timid church mouse, and I don't want you to walk away from a $$$ project and feel like its not what you wanted. You need to express that to the designer, go back and look at the plans you signed off on, and the fixtures...........if you don't take a stand, then "unfortunately " there isn't much we can help you with. Or finish the work, and then go back and spend $$ getting what you really NEED, its not much of a want if the mirrors and lighting do not function.

Downbytheriver that's funny you say that since we have been accused of quite the opposite from the company (owner and design consult). I absolutely agree we have "fought" for every single fix they have made due to their mistakes. We are in the process of making sure they come up with a solution for this that not only works with the design but is functional. We do not intend to pay anymore money for this as it most definitely their design error. I thank you for your feedback as like I said they have been very difficult to work with and have made a point to remind us of their awards and experience as a way to bully us into thinking we are the ones who don't know anything.
