Living room help

We just moved into our home after a remodel, and need help with a few details in our living room. We are looking for a rug and some kind of storage ottoman to finish off the room. The rug needs to be approximately 6'x9', and we are leaning towards something blue (the adjacent kitchen is a very light blue-grey) . The walls are Kelly Moore Plymouth Grey (50% tint), so they are a slightly cool grey. We will be adding crown moulding in the near future and white cabinets around the fireplace.

What is your budget for the rug? Do you prefer wool? : )
We don't have a preference for the material, though we would like to keep it under $800. If we do have the rug under the couch, then a 10x12 is about as big as we could go.

Any thoughts on types of storage ottoman and budget?

Do you want to use the ottoman only for storage or comfy enough to put your feet up on? Are there kids/pets to take into consideration with types of materials?

Do you prefer wood, fabric, leather? Any colours you DON'T want?

The cabinets you are looking to get for beside the fire, are you planning to have a 'storage' section on them or just open shelves? (This would be relevant for the type of ottoman you want). : )

Is there any chance of more pics of the room and anything that might be staying/going in the room?

ie the little table beside fire will it go when cabinets are fitted or will it move to somewhere else in this room.

the large formal chair in the corner - is it staying in the room?

Bring the furniture out of the pathway, line the loveseat up with the edge of the fire place so that the pathway is behind it.Consequently center the sofa on the FP and put your leather chair facing the loveseat.

Linda posted some nice rug options.

This Indigo rug from Pottery Barn is another idea:

Since you are wanting to bring in some blue, but also seem to be interested in a pretty monochromatic look - something like this jute rug, which has a variation of colors in blues, as well as some grey in the weave, might be nice.

Also, varying the throw pillow texture could bring a nice element to the space. In other words, bringing in a couple of grey pillows in other fabrics - such as silk, linen, even velvet. The same or similar color grey that you have - but different fabrication(s), to add texture.

I like the blue/jute rug, as well as some of the worn looking blue ones from Linda (1,2,4 and 7). From ah4ving fun i liked the 4th and last rugs. To answer a few of the questions, the small black table will be moved. I'd like to leave the leather chair where it is, but it's not a must. The room is roughly 18' by 14' 6", so I'm not sure if moving the couches inward and putting the brown chair opposite the loveseat would leave much room for an ottoman. As far as the ottoman is concerned, we would like something with storage and a place to kick our feet up upon. Im leaning towards fabric, at least on the top. We are expecting a baby very soon, and will be getting a dog shortly. The forthcoming fireplace cabinets will be white shakers, with doors on the bottom and then open shelves at mid and top levels. That design is also being looked into, but I'm trying to keep the cabinets the same as what is in the kitchen. For reference, I've included photos of the dining area and kitchen that this room opens up into. Theyre still being worked on; crown moulding, door hardware, toe kick, seat pads and window treatments are coming soon.

I like the Palazzo Rug (Havingfun's second to last) -- in 8x11 it is $400 (free shipping). Don't worry about 1/3 of sofa sitting on the rug, just so long as the rug touches the legs of the sofa (no visible space between them); it would be good if rug also touched the loveseat the same. Can't tell if 8x11 will meet there, 9x12 is $500.

For $200 (free shipping), Overstock has the Madison Park Shandra Bench/ottoman, which ships entirely assembled. I have this bench in Sand and it is extremely sturdy and large. We are not small people and DH and I both sat on it immediately!

It is really blue, but if you like the rug, bright blue and bright yellow-gold will be such fun to decorate with! So VanGogh! Lamps are Dulce table lamps also from Overstock. $101.50 for two!

removed rugs except the two you liked. do you plan on adding a warm color? melon, red, yellow or do you just want to keep it blue white and gray? the warm color would help bring in the leather chair.

I do not think you need to bring in the couch, more like the love seat, you can then put the leather chair across or by the window. with a table to read by?

I've taken out the rugs you didn't like. Congrats on the baby news : )

Have you had any further thoughts on a rug or the other comments?

Linda, I think we are leaning towards this Crate and Barrel rug http://m.crateandbarrel.com/bold-blue-striped-wool-blend-dhurrie-8x10-rug/s189326

We are still looking for an ottoman

I like the rug. Did you have any thoughts on moving any of the furniture as suggested by others or are you happy with how it looks.

I'm going to leave the furniture where it is. It seems to work well for our day-to-day and for when we've had company over.

I like the idea of an oval or round ottoman to offset the sofa shapes.

If using a blue rug, and with the sofas being grey and the walls being grey I wonder if a white ottoman may look good as you are planning to add white crown mouldings and wall units.

Hopefully a pro with colour knowledge will help out : )

    This one:

is 36" long (so a little small), and on sale for one more day, for $115. And there is also an armless accent chair available.

    This one:

    is 50" long, $180

Number three, 35" square, on sale one more day for $210:

also in very light and medium grays.

Number four, 47" long and $246:

The color is called dark teal, but looks close to at least one of the bands in the C&B rug. My computer sees a little aqua-teal in that rug, and very little in this ottoman!

Overstock has over 1000 storage ottomans, at average 1/3 the price of C&B!

I looked at 300, then filtered for "blue" and found this one, 39.5" long and $129:

Additionally, almost all products on Overstock have Q&A and reviews.

Another thought is a brown leatherette storage ottoman (of which Overstock has many) to echo the wing chair/recliner (?) in the corner!

    overstock.com/Home-Garden/storage-ottoman,Brown,Faux-Leather~Leather

I didn't include "bonded leather" because it has such a poor reputation, probably deserved, of flaking and peeling.

That's a good point of a possible leather ottoman to tie in the chair.
