Yes, but between screw ups and my shopping around (ebay, discontinued models, etc), we are at about 50% of what it should have cost. That doesn't include labor, because we are mostly DYI. Now, how much I can save is almost as important as the kitchen itself. lol

I bought an unfinished wood hood ($380) and stained it to match my cabinets. Hood plus insert (Broan PM-390 $314) and labor - about $250 - for a total of a bit under $1000. This was for a modest 30 inch range for a modest kitchen. My hood is oak but it comes in different wood species.

Thank you, for the help and for sharing your pretty kitchen, Jhmarie! :-)

A 36" wall mounted custom "unfinished" Omega Hood was $1000 (reg. 750?). Looks just like yours. A Vent A Hood magic lung insert $1400. so approximately $2400.

I loved the Modern Aire products. It was just too costly for us, however it never occurred to me to check the inserts.

Thank you, Atiman. That is helpful.
