I have seen a lot of very laughably doctored photos from seed sellers on Ebay, including photos of a lily-of-the-valley sprig with each individual flower colored a different color, cobalt blue roses, etc. Some are more subtle than that. It seems a little harder to police such things by way of customer reviews when customers are merely reviewing that they got their package on time, but can't tell what seeds they actually got until they plant them.

This is a scam. Gorgeous flower, but it doesn't exist. Did a Google search and there is only one person who seems to have it and is selling it on Amazon, Ebay and Etsy. Makes you wonder.

Could the dicentras in the pictures be white ones, that have been watered with dye? I grow yellow petunias with purple coronas that way, and dark red roses + judicious watering with black food colour gives you black roses.

I agree about 'scam'. Colors are certainly maniputled. As we all agree and I thought so before I found this site, I went directly back to the site of the "blue dicentra" and scrolled down to the bottom right of her page. It is their that you can report your concern, I did that as wanted my words to be followed with action more than just complaining. I have bought and sold on Etsy for years and really want to keep the site from being tainted. Thanks for helping out. Auntie Sioux

i did buy these seeds and also blue strawberries. I have not received them yet. if these are scam seeds why are they available for all these years with no one showing or saying they have been successful at growing them? Jaye in Idaho

A lot of these come from Asian sellers and they are all fairy tale plants :-) If these wildly colored varieties really did exist, do you not think you could find seeds for them locally? Or started plants at your local nursery?

Blue strawberries - and all the other fantasy colored vegetables and flowers - simply do not exist and that is pretty darn easy to confirm if one takes the time to do some basic research........

There are also some recent threads that have discussed these seed scams. Jack Seeds is one of the biggest culprits and the web is full of complaints from duped customers.

And even Etsy has been known to have unscrupulous purveyors on their site as well. Caveat emptor - buyer beware!!

why do our e bay and other sights allow this to continue?

Because it costs money to go after scammers, and they can disappear into cyberspace without much of a trace.

Ebay and other sites make a Ton of Money selling the Fake Seeds.

They get a much higher percentage of the Sale then they do off Real Seeds.

I have reported many of the obvious Fakes, but not a single one has been taken down, which I presume is because they are very profitable for Ebay, ect.

The Scammers Pay Ebay, Amazon, & Etsy extra fees to make sure their listing is the most viewed.

They can afford to Pay all the extra fees because the seed they ship has almost no value (less than 1 cent).
