We've lived in our house for 41 years and for 41 years I've had trouble arranging furniture in my living room. In particular to include our mantel. The room is full of Windows (5) and doors (2 - one of which is about six feet wide). The mantel is stuck in a corner of the room - not a corner mantel, but in the corner - there is about a foot between the mantel and the corner where two walls meet and on the other side (maybe two feet) is a 3 foot door. The mantel is large and at some point probably surrounded a wood or coal burning stove. The house was built in the early 1900s. When heat was installed the stove probably was taken out, but the mantel was left and the wall was plaster up. I've never known what to do with it short of spending hundreds of dollars to have faux fire painted in the empty space. I've tried everything. The mantel is too ornate to cover up and we tried having it moved to another room, but they couldn't pry it off the wall. Any advise would be appreciated.
