Grass ID

So my friend has the best grass I have ever seen. It is low, and really did not even need mowing after 3 weeks, takes direct sun and is drought tolerant. It is green where the rest of the grasses have gone brown, from the dry weather and season changing to fall. Everyone that walks on the grass comments about how it feels. He is moving so I dug up a 1 sq ft plug and brought it home to transplant. I might get more. Should I break it in to smaller pievces and spread it out or will my fescue kill it off i wonder?

The photo was 2 weeks after mowing and was taken oct 27th 2016 the split ends are only present on the taller ones and appear to be mower damage.
