What to do with these crazy Rhododendrons?

We bought a foreclosure this year. The place has been vacant for several years, and a lot of stuff was overgrown. The original owner who did all the planting had planted a lot of things very close together. So the rhodies are only growing to one side because the rest is all shaded by a lot of trees. We're cutting down a bunch of trees (many are too close to the house, or the roots are a problem with our well), so that should take care of the excess shade over the rodies. However, I'm really not sure how to cut them back. Should I cut everything going along the ground? How should I deal with them? Here are some pictures: https://goo.gl/photos/Tc59JnxbmUFpVhWX8
