Garage door not opening right

This has been an issue for years. I had it looked at by overhead door a few years back...they were not concerned. I think it's getting worse and driving me nuts.

The opener is an old overhead door model on a single door. I actually inquired about replacing it and the OD dude sort if told me to keep it...they don't make em like that anymore etc.

This issue only happens when the door has been closed for a period of time...a few hours. If I open it then close it then reopen it the problem does not reoccur. It does not seem weather dependent.

When I open the door it is as though the bottom of one side sticks..making a noisy bang sound...it looks like one side gets a head start over the other but it immediately straightens out and is fine. It closes fine. Again..if I immediately reopen it does not do this.

I lubed the tracks. I see no obstructions. I can not reason why this happens.

It's been this way for years but seems to have gotten a little worse.

Ideas please?

Does the door press tightly against the door frame, at any place? Paint on the door can cause it to stick to the frame.

Disconnect the opener via the pull string. The door should open and close easily and smoothly. Leave the door open at approximately chest height, does it say in place? My gut reaction is that you have an issue with the springs and they need to be replaced. What I think is happening is when the door is down for a period of time, the spring has a chance to "relax" just a bit and that causes the door to cock in the opening when the door first starts to open.

I will try that....I am not messing with those suckers though...I thought I had them replaced along with pulleys and such within the past 7 years....however the issue has always been present...just getting worse.

Could a crooked door cause it? It meets the ground flush but is not 100 percent parallel with garage header 2 by 4....of course the 2 by 4 might not be level...I guess I can check that.

Some information I gleaned from the internet is that the springs should last for about 10,000 cycles. Also if the installer tensioned the 'sticky' side looser that could account for your problem.
