Yes but it is not their favorite. They regularly eat my new growth flushes. They don't eat mature leaves on my citrus until the end of the summer when they get desperate.

I assume it is because the leaf is sweeter and maybe more tender. Lately, one of my horses has taken a liking to my trees.

Wow that answers my question then, Brett the deer here are desperate. I dont remember a year here that has been this bad. Pepper plants stripped of their leaves hostas caladuims roses all chewed down. They dont like rosemary, took bite out of my coleus. I must say they are not afraid of people as i wrote this post yesterday there were 6 in the edge of the yard. They wonder around during day . Not uncommon to come home and find a couple standing up next to the house and casually walk off. Arrrrrg! Thanks John Laura Brett Josh bossy. One thing you could do, if you dare, is spray the trees with liquid fence. Around here the deer won't touch anything sprayed with this stuff. The downside is it really stinks after spraying, although after it dries I can't smell it at all. You also have to apply it once a week or so initially. After the first couple of weeks you don't have to spray as often.

I have lots of Citrus and HERDS of deer. Citrus are NOT favored by deer, but as you say..., when stressed they will eat almost anything! We here in NJ (and much of the Northeast are also in moderate to SEVERE drought). I saw a deer munching on one of my cold hardy agaves yesterday! Overall though, I think they won't touch them.

Do they ever! Here is New Honey Sweet grapefruit completely ravaged. They yanked 3 out of 4 branches. I don't know if it will recover

I feel your pain bossyvossy. I sprayed my rose bushes that still have leaves and canes with neem and ho. Hoped the smell of neem might help discourage the deer. Think i was deer free friday night. Need to check on them today. I brought my citrus trees inside. This is my first winter and i am nervous caring for indoor citrus.
