That's a big chunk of land! Got a tractor? I'd track the shady spots, see how much sun you really get then call the sod farms for estimated pricing. You may need to do it in phases & some spots may be better as veggie gardens, alternative groundcover, or ornamental plantings.

It's close to 2 acres, yes I have a tractor. It's mostly shady all day, but I'll track it and see. I think sod may be out of the question price wise, but I'll call around and check prices

Talk to your local U of Georgia extension office. Warm season grass would likely be better for your area. Warm season grasses like Bermuda and zoysia are usually established by sod. For any grass to thrive, it needs sun. If you have shade most of the day (shade is very valuable, especially in hot climates), you may want to look into alternative groundcovers. Talk to your local extension office for ideas. if you have an open field and a tractor, maybe you'd like to plant a crop? Are you able to water the area where you want a lawn? If you do nothing, weeds will likely grow. There is nothing wrong with a field of mowed weeds.

    You can always sprig Bermuda.

Bermuda would do great in the sunny areas for sure, but closer to the house zoysia would be the ticket. Or fescue if you want to reseed every year or 2--It won't like the summer heat

I'm in the process now of trimming the pecan trees to get a lot of the low hanging limbs cut maybe that will help let the sun through. As for the grass I was thinking about using a carpenter mix or a sun and shade mix, and experience with either of these?

I have never heard of carpenter mix. A sun and shade mix is likely to be a combination of cool season grasses and will likely not survive your summers. Here is a webpage on selecting turfgrass in Georgia. Bermuda and zoysia are the only two that can be used statewide. Are you in the Piedmont or mountains or coastal plain? If so, you have a few additional options.

I meant a contractor mix, but thanks I'll give that a look. I'm probably more coastal plain area

For whatever mix you're looking at, you have to look at the label to see what is actually in there. It will vary from place to place. Your local extension office is going to be the best place to get information on what works for your area. For whatever lawn you install, you must have a way to water it, so keep that in mind as you plan.

For coastal plain I would drop a few pieces of St Augustine sod, especially under every tree, and let them take over as much as you can afford to water. It will establish very well in the shade and will spread into the sun. When temps are in the 70s it spreads about 1-2 inches per week. It can go 15 feet easily in a year. The coarse blades will shade out almost all grassy weeds including bermuda. Broadleaf weeds will invade but they can be handled.

All grasses need an inch of water per week in the heat of summer, so I would limit the grass area to as much as you are willing to water. Usually that is just a few thousand square feet adjacent to the house - say 30-40 feet out all around it.

I've done some reading and asked some questions, I'm Going to try spriging Bermuda in the spring. I haven't seen to much info on spriging a residential property. A local farmer stopped by and told me about the process. It would be around 300.00 dollars for as many bushels as I would need comparing told the 1400.00 for 50 lbs of centipede seed.

Bermuda needs sun. You described your yard as mostly shady.

Pruning the trees helped a lot with the shade, I'm going to actually track it this weekend, also I've decided to do beds around all the trees And around my trailer.
