Bachman's November calendar in this week's e-mail suggests winterizing roses with the MN tip during the second weekend in November.

The MN Arboretum had their rose tipping démonstration October 22. You could call them, 952-443-1400, to ask if they did all their roses that day.

A lot depends on what roses you have.

Some need a lot of protection; many need less and less as global warming accelerates, and some are and have been completely hardy for a long time.

If you roses are grafted, likely hybrid teas, grandifloras, or most floribundas, you will probably need to give them careful protection. Roses that are "own root" much less since they normally come back if frozen to the ground. Rugosas generally need no protection, many shrub roses do not either, although there is some variation in hardiness in those groups.

Besides the Landscape Arboretum you can also have a look at the Rose Garden just north of Lake Harriett. MN tip is a lot of work, and I have some doubts that one needs to go quite that far anymore.
