OK, get someone to give you one for Christmas. I am in zone 7 and mine is about 20'tall, and I can't reach the figs anymore, but don't have the heart to cut it down.

they grow fast and are easy to propagate from cuttings. do you have access to an existing plant to take cuttings from? i am talking about the native brown turkey fig. they are usually sold locally at any garden center or sometimes ace hardware stores. might also try your local co-op.

Easy to obtain and fast growing. Even quite small plants will bear fruit. btw, there are NO native figs :-)

my bad call. gg knows this stuff well. i assumed the plant was native since it is so common and widely grown or perhaps someone told me it was. of course, using that same logic, crape myrtles could also be mistakenly called native.:-) anyway, i like figs and usually steal some from my neighbor's shrub (they don't eat them at all). it was planted by their great aunt and it quite large now.

What I get from all this is that the brown turkey fig grows well in Zone 7 and is liked by a lot of people. It sounds like brown turkey is hard to beat in my region. I think I'm going to go with that. Thank you, friends and neighbors.

P.S. Today I saw a cat trying to drag a squirrel into a hole under a rock. They got in the bushes and I don't know how it turned out, but I think the cat probably got im', but it looked like the cat kept biting hair and skin. So I don't know.....?

Figs get frostbite below 10 degrees so be sure to put it on a south facing windbreak or wall and watch the temp. Every 15 years or so ours gets frozen here south of Birmingham. It will grow back once established but when new a cold winter will kill it.
