If you can use the chests without bumping yourself because of the height difference, they are fine to use.

From the design discussions I have been reading, mismatched bedside tables are "in fashion" these days.
On the woman's table, I would put a lace mat, a feminine lamp, and a small bouquet of flowers. On the man's table, perhaps a leather valet tray for a man's wristwatch and eyeglasses, with a more masculine lamp. Perhaps the two lamps could be the same color, but different shapes.
