November is the ideal month to plant unless you can grow in tall cups and replant in the Spring. These seeds need cold stratification for 60 days before they will germinate, so the fridge or the winter's soil will do.

I got worried bc I thought maybe a seed needing cold strat wouldn't do well here in LA but the map says it's good to go.

Hi there, Showy is native to Northern California and the Midwest, but Ill send it to you anyway.

With the double postage, I sent the seeds hand sorted, and there is a cotton ball in the packet w the seeds.

I'll get the SASE in the mail tomorrow. I'll take whatever you want to send. I have common milkweed seeds coming from another person. I have a hill thats almost impossible to mow that I want to cover in milkweed for the monarchs. I think it's a perfect use of otherwise unusable space.

Would you grow Tropical Milkweed? Have you grown mw before?

Need2seegreen, You will still have to put the seeds in the fridge until Feb., when you can plant them or grow them in tall cups until you replant them.

Toni I haven't grown any milkweed before. I checked the link above and tropical milkweed is not native to NC where I live. Would it grow here?

I just got my envelope back. Do we need to put c/o BMUC? I will resend with the correct address but was wondering if we needed to put that on the envelope as well. Also, in the corrected address you might want to change the Can to CA. :)

Yes, plenty of Showy Milkweed left. Write the name SHOWY and the number of plants you can grow on the envelope. Please look up growing instructions online..

Hi Toni, thanks for the seed offer. I will put an envalope in the mail tomorrow. I can use as many Showy Milkweed seeds as you can spare. I am doing a community project and germinating 1000 swamp (and some Common) milkweed seeds to give away seedlings to the public this spring2019. I'm an Ohio, Geauga County Master Gardener and a hobby Monarch butterfly raiser. I'm hoping to have the public plant Milkweed all along the US Monarch flight corridor from Ohio to Texas. I gave away 300 Swamp Milkweed seedlings. (I find Monarch caterpillars prefer Swamp over Common Milkweed). Showy Milkweed would be a bonus to grow! Aloha!

Sorry, the post needs to be deleted. Also, I would recommend planting more narrow leaf milkweed. The Showy milkweed tends to mold.

I give them away in the spring. Will germinate 1000 more next spring 2020
