No, sorry TL, Hoya aerial roots don't usually get long, they're for holding on to trees & climbing upwards. They don't need to get long for that. I've had them w/ Curttisii & my Kerriis & Publicalyxes, at least.

Maybe your'e confusing them w/ aerial roots for the succulents Kalanchoes, which can get long indeed, & tend to go down into the soil.

OMG!I hope your right Marco. I have 3 of them.1 behind each set of leaves! Maybe I'm a freak of nature but I like to wear gloves when I play in the dirt lol

Bridgett, that is how my Kerrii and Obovata both grow. Pair of leaves, peduncle, a few inches more and do it again !! I love it when they are mature enough to do this. I am in Florida so mine will bloom next April some time. Congrats !

I think it had several peduncles on it when I sent it to you, Bridgett. It bloomed this last summer and will next year, I'm sure. And the aerial roots can be trimmed off if you don't like the looks of them. And they can get quite long in high humidity. I notice Marco's Hoyas get some impressive aerial roots down there in the humidity of The Sunshine State!

No problem Karen. Here is a pic of a Villosa short leave clone that i have rooted. You can see how long the aerial roots are on the stem. There were not there when i started the cutting but after about 6 weeks in high humidity the grew to well over 3 inches...

Denise, I keep all my cuttings in a closed container of some kind and keep it misted everyday.

Bridgett. I use 1/3 each of clay, perlite, and bark. I have had 100 percent success.

Before i would use a lot of peat in the mix and the cuttings would always rot..

Could I pls. ask what kind of clay? Pretty remarkable looking roots.

It's calcined clay. Very small size.

Where do you get it? I can't even find a fine grade orchid bark..

I get a similar product here called Turface. It is used as a substrate for golf courses etc. I wonder if it is the same? I have started cuttings in that too. Also those small round clay balls called Hydroton.

If you root a cutting in hydroton, do you have to grow it in hydroton as well?

Karen, i use it cause it holds a bit of water but does not drown the roots. It works really good with the perlite and bark.

Bridgett, i dont like the big clay balls so i dont use them.
