so the cooktop will be in the island? I will tell you that is not ideal for having kids sit at while you are cooking, we had that, got rid of it and have just a plain island. As far as induction range, i can not speak to the different ones, but the home forum under appliances can be super helpful

I have had my cooktop in my island for the last 30 years. I love it & wouldn't have it any other way. I'm always cooking facing the activity, instead of facing the wall. I cook a lot &, never splatter up the wall. I have 4 bar stools at my island & especially when making breakfast for the kids, I can serve them as soon as it's cooked. No one has ever been hurt as a result of sitting & watching me cook. My cooktop is an ikea induction cooktop made by Whirlpool. When we remodeled the kitchen in 2012, we purchased it. It's the greatest. I can't tell you how many times I remind my husband how much I like my cooktop. Previously, we had a Jenn Air electric cooktop (which was a pain to clean & didn't heat well). This induction cooktop heats things fast, evenly, simmers, it does it all. It's also a breeze to clean & looks as good today as it did when we installed in 2012. I cook a lot for the family, as well as entertain a lot. I love my induction cooktop & love having it in the island. I also was able to keep my 2 drawers right below the cooktop, so that was a bonus. We've done a lot of cooking demonstrations for our freinds. It's a fun conversation piece too. I considered a gas cooktop, but was concerned with the cleanup. This induction cooktop heats quickly (like gas) & turns off equally quickly. It's everything I wanted. Most people might be concerned with the IKEA brand. I read some reviews in advance of purchasing & am glad I did. The IKEA cooktop is listed at $999. That's quite a savings. Plus, it comes with a 5 year warranty. That's 4 years more than any other on the market.
