Moire black roof

last modified: 9 years ago

I'm having a hard time choosing a roof color! We're building a farmhouse with shed dormers and several porch spaces. It will be painted white dove and is board-on-batten. We're refiguring the numbers to see if we can do an all metal roof but in case it can't happen budget-wise, I'm trying to decide on shingle color. I want a charcoal black but not too dark and I see a lot of great reviews about Moire Black. The roofing company here said it has "some blue in it" which makes me anxious! I've checked with a contractor on houzz who uses it on his gorgeous homes and he said no blue! I also had a designer look at it and she said no blue. I would say it has some grey for sure but not really blue. So just wanted to see if anyone has used it then noticed a blue tone?? I would love to put galvalume metal on the dormers and porches mixed with the Moire on the rest, if anyone has paired those two I would love to hear your feedback. TKS

Find out which houses it has been used on and drive by in several different lighting situations. Bit of a bother? Less bothersome than living with a to of on hates for the next 20 years!

We chose Moire Black shingles. It looks great on the house. I have not noticed anything approaching a blue tone. We have been thrilled with the choice.

Thank you Andy, is your house white?

Chances are a grey that "has blue in it" is another way of saying it is a cool grey, meaning it looks a little blue as opposed to a little red (warm).

And remember, once your house is built, most likely nobody is going to notice the roof.

We chose Moire Black for our white house and love it. We have black metal shed roofs on the front of the house and the shingles and metal roof both look great. I have not noticed any blue tint whatsoever - just a deep black but with enough texture/definition that it doesn't look like a tar paper roof.

Do any of you have the Max Def Moire black or standard? What is the difference?

I just went with a shingle that looks like slate, lays flat looks great. Color is black granite, but it much more a mixture of greys and charcoal. Certainteed highland slate is the shingle brand

@Nick and @Andy - would you mind confirming if you used Moire Black Max Def Pro or the Moire Black Standard? My understanding is they can look quite different. Do you have photos you might be willing to share? I am trying to decide between Moire Black and Charcoal Black now and very worried about Moire looking too busy. We will be using the Max Def Pro. Thank you!

@Gretchen Madden, we used Moire Black standard on our roof and it's definitely not busy at all. It's perfect! I'll try to add a pic from my phone.

@shead - thank you! I am pretty convinced I love the Moire black standard. Unfortunately we need the extra warranty that comes with the pro, so we will be getting the Max Def pro shingles and I'm afraid they won't look as streamlined as your pics show of your beautiful house! I love the standard moire black! From the photos I've seen of the Moire Pro, there is more variation in the shingles - more grey mixed with black, is the best way I can describe it. so worried I won't like it as much as I like yours! Thank you!
