Need help with ornamental grass questions

We recently bought a home with quite a bit of landscaping which is all new to me. One thing I have been trying to figure out is what to do with an area of ornamental grass the old owner put in. I actually really like it and want to make sure I don't kill it over the harsh Wisconsin winter.

I am not sure what type of grass it is but based on looking online I think it might be pampass grass. I have attached photos so maybe someone else might know better. It used to be green but now that it is November it has turned brown.

My questions:

  1. Do I need to do anything with this before we receive snow? I imagine any wet/heavy snow would just crush all this grass but maybe I am wrong.
  2. If I don't have to do anything before winter, do I ever need to do anything with it? Maybe in the spring?
  3. If I do need to do something with it, what do I do? I would imagine it would need to be cut back but any details on the best way to do this so it grows back nice would be

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I am new to the gardening/landscaping stuff but I am anxious to learn and want to make sure I don't ruin what the old homeowner did :)
