retail therapy

I'm back after nearly a month away. I went to visit dad for fall fishing and 90th birthday party. We didn't get much fishing done. We had a terrific party with two of his sisters and nephews, as well my siblings and nephews. He had bronchitis and ended up three days in the hospital with pneumonia after everyone else left. I was able to stay an extra week to get him settled back at home and recovering. When I left he was starting another batch of wine and rigging fishing gear. It will be another week or two before he gets back to yoga.

I made a bunch of muscadine and scuppernong jellies and jams from dad's grapes. He had a huge crop this year, enough for close to 500 bottles. He gives away a lot of wine.

We hired a cleaning lady for his birthday present. He was reluctant until the first visit. Then he was thrilled.

I brought back a platform rocker my sister had bought at a garage sale for me. It's still in my car. I'm not used to it being dark when I get home from work yet, plus, ahem, certain other developments have left me too numb to unpack yet.

I also brought the silver flatware back with me and for some retail therapy I ordered two butter pat dishes and an egg cup in my great aunt's china pattern and a tiny silver salt spoon in the silver. I'll use the egg cup for salt at the table.

I need to think about weaving a formal linen table cloth.

Stringweaver it sounds like a great time was had by all. Sorry to hear your Dad got sick during part of it but also good to hear he is now on the mend.

Very interesting on the jams and jellies and wine. Neighbors used to make wine. It was good and packed a punch but a bit too sweet for me. I admire some one that can actually make a good wine.

Tap Tap Tap waiting on the pictures of your finds and orders. Retail therapy is a good thing some times. Lately my retail therapy just puts me to work with stepping stones and fence wire but it is all good and making for a better life for me.

yes, we need to see pics of the goodies! shades - we also need pics of your fence project!

I've been doing some retail therapy too. more overwhelming tho - as I then have to 'work' to find a home here for the result of it! I have several boxes sitting by my front door waiting... tho, some are for Christmas... 1 is a new printer and I haven't been quick about moving it because I think it'll be heavy and have hoped Jed would come by to move it for me.

I have more therapy in the works - a laptop is in transit to me as I type. I hope I can figure it all out. it does come with a 24/7 help line. I'll probably be calling it often!

I've gone so long doing without things - like a printer. my old one hasn't worked for about a yr now. I decided enough was enough! they aren't that expensive anymore either. I think we paid 700.00 in 82 for our first printer. then in about 89 I paid 400.00 for one. I paid about 70.00 for this one. my old one was about that price too. Anyway, I decided I should start making headway on replacing a few things. I might be adding the guts of my mstr bathroom to that... and then part of the kitchen. but those are off in the future a bit. Those 2 things scare me more than a new appliance or toy/computer. Those will cause me inconvenience and hassle that I don't look forward to. the aftermath of it will be so much better tho!

Yes, Stringweaver, I'm glad your dad is recovering too. He sounds like quite the character. Your "retail therapy" sounds very satisfying to me. If you do get to weaving the table cloth, I would love to see pictures. That is a skill I really admire.

me too. He must be doing great to recover that quickly. I've had it at least twice and it took me longer than that to recover each time. And I was a lot younger. the first time I was in my early 30s and then when I was in my late 40s. fall of '15 I really struggled to not get it. Actually, I might have had it slightly. It took me months to pull out of it. I know I was struggling around TG time and then I remember on NYE I thought about how bad I'd been on TG and Christmas and was happy I was feeling better that night.
