I have sprayed neem oil on the fire ants around my plants. It doesn't kill them but it usually makes them move on.

ETA: After they move away from the plant, I have had great success with liberal amounts of Orthene.

If someone is trying to break into your house and hurt you, would you not shoot them because the bullets of your gun are not organic?? Fire ants are not nice; they kill animals; they injure humans. Get rid of them any way you can.

Thank you all advices. I will give a try with I will try neem oil from the citrus plants or diatomaceous earth and kill them with insecticides. I found a few mounds elsewhere too.

I like to share the good news. Over the weekend, I sprayed diatomaceous earth underneath the citrus plant where fire ants were nesting. I disturbed the small ant mound. They came out and I sprayed the diatomaceous earth over them and also around. I stopped water sprinkler to keep the ground dry.

This afternoon I went to check. I did not see any ants. I even watered with a hose, they did not come out. Seems either they are dead and buried or they left. I did not see any ants or new mounds around. Probably they are killed.
