I'm in the Metro Detroit area so our winters are probably quite similar. I don't recommend wintering roses inside the house. You can keep them going for a little while but eventually they start to dwindle and die off. The light is one problem but the humidity is usually the biggest problem. You would not be comfortable in a house damp enough to keep a rose happy. Unless you have a small greenhouse with full spectrum lights and misters to keep the humidity high the roses will only limp along for the winter. Mine always decided to die about a week or two before I could take them out, lol. January is way to soon to take them out around here. I couldn't get anything out much before mid-March. And even then it depends on how cold the nights get. Roses will take temps down to about 28 degrees without damage but anything lower than that and they'll suffer die back. Otherwise you'd have to take them out during the day and bring them back in every night until temps stay above freezing.

I did end up getting a plant. I had no knowledge about what colour it was going to be as no buds were open yet. It turns out it is a beautiful Neil Diamond Rose :) Hopefully all will go well with it
