Are these couches all wrong?

last modified: 9 years ago

These couches were just delivered and they are darker than I expected and bigger than I realized. The room isn't decorated yet so it's a blank slate, but I need advice... Are they too big? Should I try another set up? Can I make them work? If so, what should I do to balance out the small room and big couch dilemma? I'm indecisive and not all that great at decorating. I guess I'm wondering if I should return them while I still can.

return them! they are indeed too big. it's best to take measurements of the couch before you buy, and lay an outline out in your room to make sure they will be okay. I also suggest taking the arm height of your future couch, and measure the height of your tables to be sure they are not more than 2-3 inches above or below your sofa arms. I assumed heights were standard for some silly reason.

They do look a bit big but very comfortable and child friendly (colorwise). Do you love them? If not, then I would return them if there's still time asap. There's no sense in keeping them if you are not too happy with them.

Hi there. What is the room being used for? Family tv room or guest living room? I think if you can provide room dimensions & pic of wall to left as you enter room it would help in receiving more advice. If it were me, I would include pics of adjoining room or rooms as you walk into the space with new sofas. I have no design skills to offer you but have learned the more info you provide the better advice you will get from this great community. Good luck!

I agree with frostedsleet, more pictures and whether the room is a family or living room. I think they work color and comfort wise (they look comfortable) for a young family, but please don't keep them if you don't like them!!!

i think if you are doing nothing but watching tv in there? alright, otherwise they are no good.

Thanks for the advice... I'm new here and don't have much confidence in my ability to decorate my home, so this is great!

This is the front room - our living room and the first thing you see when you walk in the house. It's a tiny room that leads into the kitchen or upstairs.

I loved the couches in the store and they fit in with our budget, but I'm not so sure about them now. I'll post new pics in the morning. Thanks!

Don't give up just yet, just to warn you you may end up paying a hefty restocking fee depending where you purchased them. Don't get discouraged, post more pics as you mentioned. It may be a matter of just moving them around.

They do look a little big for the room, as they are visually heavy. A helpful thing to keep in mind with small rooms is to consider the visual weight of furnishings. In your case you may want to consider something "lighter". Furniture with legs tend to take up less visual space. In your case, perhaps a sofa with legs and a simple chair or two would work better.

I think too they look big because we see nothing else in the room. The walls are empty etc. ..and as I said you may be able to move things around.

Great "Dilemma" that we can all work on! Looking forward to seeing more pictures. Considering you ordered them - you must have liked something about them ( is it the color, comfort, depth, etc.?). DO identify that for us please so we know what to prioritize / address. What other furniture pieces / appliances will go in the room and what will the room be used for? If it is the living room, a seating area for how many people would you ideally like to accommodate in the space? What is the approach to the room like and how is the room itself laid out (windows, passageways, etc.) ? I can see that you still have what seems like a builder beige color, are you considering to paint the space to personalize it (thus the dark sofa/s?)

With the few pictures so far, I feel like I just have to mention that we have to identify or create a focal point in the room (are those triple windows in the far wall? what is the view like?)

    Excited for you!

If you do take Jan's (good) advice -- the chair fabric does not need to be the same as the sofa.

Yes, return the loveseat and get a chair instead. Then begin your decorating.

    The deadly combo--sofa + loveseat.

A pair of chairs instead of the loveseat. Two chairs are much more flexible than a loveseat. Find them in a color.

Will this room have a TV? If yes, you should consider where it will go.

A little more info and a few more pictures of the room from different angles... Yes, I know the home is pretty basic and simple, but it is our first home and it's perfect for my family so I love it! As you can see I haven't even attempted to decorate the room yet and couldn't tell you what the focal point of the room would be. I'm planning on adding a lamp and hanging a mirror above the couch. That's as far as I've gotten! The purpose of the room is to have somewhere that is comfortable and inviting when guests come to our home. While I would like it to be a room that is kept clean and nice, it's already becoming a favorite place for storytime. Someday I would like to have something really nice and formal, but for now I need something that is functional, comfortable, and durable enough to handle my 3 small kids. If I were to switch out the loveseat what types of chairs would you suggest? Any decorated advice would be appreciated!

And the pillows came with the couch... I'm not a fan, but it's all I have at the moment!

I did notice you had turned them. Maybe call the store, it seems more and more you do not like what you bought. Call them and find out about returning or even exchanging. Bring measurements of your room and even pictures so next time you will find something more suitable. I truly wish you the best in your dilemma. I know how hard it is to have something not turn out as expected. Best to you. As I mentioned just be advised there may be a return/restocking fee.

congrats on your new home! I think what you really need to do, is just make the room be for mommy and me time, not playtime. that will help make it cleaner. I believe the best terminology is, "if you can't see mommy from here then you should not be in here." I will tell what my options would be.

For you I would like one of two options. either this

do not go by the color, use the click button underneath and go to the site. this place is incredible and finally i have a pro that says that yes they are good and comfortable. the prices are great, they are american, they are cheap, they have all kinds of awards and all pillows and arms are changeable! I had read people getting one for dorm or first apt and 10 years later, updating for their new home.

My other choice is more but has a nice footprint, is leggy so it is even lighter looking, it is hard working and easily change out cushions mean you do not need to change the whole couch or chair out.

you might want to get matching woods if you go this route.

If you need to keep what you have, don't give up, we will just work it differently. these other ways would just be better for you. in the mean time work a little more on what colors you like.
