Do pets eat less when travelling?

I notice my pooches eat about 1/2 of their usual portion. Don't know if excited or the fact we indulge them with ice cream or whatever junk food we eat on the road has something to do with it. Are your pets like that?

Wished I ate less when travelling, sigh....

I don't travel with the dog, but definitely snacks will affect their appetite for their regular food. Additionally, they may be getting less exercise which affects appetite too.

My 2 cents here--Took the dog to the vet last week for his annual checkup. He checked out very well, weight is perfect. However, the vet cautioned me about fat in his diet, especially fatty snacks like cheese and peanut butter because they can trigger pancreatitis. Our other dog nearly died of pancreatitis. So be careful to limit the treats so the pups eat the healthy stuff.

Very handsome guy. When I was a kid and we got soft serve ice cream, the dog always got his very own cone too, the small size. Have a good trip and happy Thanksgiving holiday.

He is very handsome. Socks, when I was a teenager and had a horse I would ride her to the ice cream place and we each would have an ice cream cone!! It's a good memory.

Love that picture, he's beautiful. In addition to the treats, most dogs tend to need a routine and schedule of sorts, so I suspect that travel (even when they're used to it) can stress them a bit resulting in a loss of appetite.

Also, most people don't realize this but the weather you're in could be a factor as well, if you're traveling to a location that's a lot warmer then where you live, the heat can cause a loss of appetite as well.

LOL yes. She would eat the top ice cream first, then follow up with the cone. I guess because it is sweet??
