Any hood can perform its ventilation function with an in-line blower, but the control mounted to the hood may not be compatible with the selected blower. No manufacturer will accept responsibility for another manufacturer's interface compatibility except in specific cases where the manufacturer (e.g., Wolf) designs its control for specific OEM blowers (e.g., Broan/Nutone).

Generally, continuous motor controls use electronics technology that works with induction motors, but even in this case the power capability of the control has to be appropriate for the power needs of the blower.

Your choices seem to be (a) experiment (take a chance), (b) do an engineering analysis, or (c) provide a separate control for the Fantech. Fantech may be able to advise you about whether a particular hood's control can be used with one of their blowers.

I wonder how Fantech sells any products then without selling an actual hood that is compatible with their inline fans??

I imagine that much of their customer base is made up of professionals who can do the needed integration, or informed amateurs who do enough research to make use of their components where they are suitable. Their blowers are not limited to supporting hoods -- for example, make-up air supply.
