Ceiling extractor position over kitchen island

We are having a 1400mm by 2700mm island with an induction hob in one side of it. We've got a ceiling extractor and was thinking that it would look better to be positioned in the centre of the island even though this is not directly over the hob itself. Any thoughts on pros or cons of centring it?

An island hood has a hard enough time capturing all of the cooking effluent as it is. That's why it needs to be wider and deeper than the hob it covers. And it needs to be directly over the hob. Unless you cover the whole island with a capture area like a commercial restaurant.
