I like where your bed is placed. Your headboard has a heavier look compared to the furniture in the rest of the room. I think you need to either eliminate most other furniture and have a very pared down look or add a larger dresser or one bedside table. No need for two. A fluffier comforter and a few more pillows would add interest.

Agree with puremichigan60 and would add you could use a nice peaceful painting over your headboard. Could you move your bed toward your window wall a bit to make room for a interest bedside chest. Mattress height that adds some interest either with color or styling. Bring a bit more eclectic into your room. Remove chair and get small bench.

@puremichigan, I like the idea of a pared down look (I have bookmarked a few minimalist rooms in my ideabooks) but how do you make it look good? There is always the risk of looking unfinished and, well, just bare. It's a fine line!

Remove any pieces that don't fit the look. You want focal points, one or two, made with paint - accent wall, large art, one block of strong color. You do have good inspiration pics that show minimalism yet warmth.

A large plant - a fig - gives a room interest w/o clutter. Also, consider painting your headboard a strong color. That would draw the eye. For a smaller room one or two strong pieces would be enough.

The little blue dresser is so cute and I would make that the focal/jumping off point in your room. Try it next to your bed on the mirror side so you see as you enter and add your art + a good sized lamp. I would remove the lamp on the other side, as it's too small and fold back the coverlet in half. Place chair kitty corner near the window. Wish List: Try a bit more laying of your bed, a large wool/hemp rug if you like simplicity - see look in 1st picture. A pretty chandelier is always a bonus and you could pull back the sheers and add a rattan roman blind per 2nd picture for a warmer look.

How about curtain? Centered at ceiling and draped to sides? Just something interesting on the wall. No mirror.

both of these from your IB are very doable. Note the bold canvas wall art as one focal point. the bed itself is bold, but in a quiet way.

The first photo there's an accent wall which you could do behind your bed. Paint the headboard in a contrasting color, use simple sheets w/o texture and a great plant in the corner. It does mean removing most xtras you have now.

Just for you and kitty pretty - but only a tiny blue amount....

Maureen, I love the layout in that first photo, combined with a big fiddle fig plant where the dresser currently is, it would look lovely. But not sure a huge plant in a bedroom is advisable ?

I moved the dresser to the right of the bed, what do you guys think? The top needs a little more dressing up, starting with, yes, a more substantial lamp!

I have also put back my mattress topper so the bed is level with the dresser and added some pillows, but lost the headboard in the process, so not good!

I have photo-shopped the fig plant in as I can't quite offer it!

I've also used a round rug I had in my studio to fill the space, but I think a large rectangular one would be better.

I love the idea of a feature wall but the wall by the entrance of this room is already a feature ( blue in off white room) so I wouldn't know how to make it all work together...

The sheer curtain have to stay as the room is on ground floor, I have white wooden blinds behind it.

Now what to do about the big empty wall across from the bed?

How about some curtains? I've also photoshopped some in, could help with making the room more finished. Blue? Or patterned for added dimension? How about the velvet ones from ikea?

That's a pretty blue. I'd paint the wall behind the bed the same blue. You'd have cohesion then between the two rooms.

Very nice. I like the irregular shaped rug. Very good look. Painting wall behind bed very good idea just select color that works with your other blue. SW Sea Salt might work.

Is it better to have the painting leaning on the wall or should I hang it above dresser?

I like a painting that size to be leaning. It has a casual effect that seems right.

I like the idea of curtains, and the velvety ones from ikea looks like a perfect match to your dresser. You could also look at some with motifs, anthropology has many that would look good with your things.

Personally, with empty wall space, I'd hang the art and fill the area above more.

A picture over the bed would be too much with the dresser and picture on the same wall.

First, I would change the frame on the painting. Then hang it. It gets lost "leaning". If it were taller you could lean it.

You could get some wood stain and stain frame darker color. It would compliment the painting. And stand out more on your wall.

It's very hard to know what to do with empty wall in front of bed, you never see that side of bedroom in photos! Maybe a bench and a gallery wall like this one? Something nice to look at when you are in bed?

Just following along. Great ideas here. I'll add that I love your wood floors and wouldn't cover them with a large carpet. I like the blue chest next to the bed. A larger lamp and your picture hung over the chest. I also like the idea of adding some drapery panels to window. A nice simple white coverlet and pillow shams would be nice and dress the bed up by purchasing an extra drapery panel and make some accent pillow covers for the bed to match the drapes. (I am taking the liberty to assume if you don't sew, you may know someone who does ;) ). No artwork over the bed but a large piece of art, even a poster, that you love to look at on the wall opposite your bed. Lots to consider but really pretty easy to accomplish. Good luck and enjoy your lovely room. Your kitty certainly isn't camera shy. Gotta love kitties!

I know I am coming in a bit late to the conversation, but what about putting the bed in front of the window? Not sure if it will fit with the chest. You could but a bench at the foot of the bed if there is room.

I think Jen said she lives on a ground floor, it might not feel that secure to have bed under Windows ?

@ DesignViews inc , yes the bed in front off the window could work but it's not for me, I never quite liked that look, unless you have other windows in the room!

@Seajaygerns, I start to see the room coming along, in my head at least, thanks to all the great advises I've gotten here and you've pretty much did my laundry list for me! Lamp, curtains, cushion (I can too sew!) artwork, bedding... Done! Oh and plant. Re: Bedding, I do have quite a few different sets, some white too, I like to switch them around!

@Fiomangan, I know what you mean about the frame; the painting had a brown one for a while but it wasn't complementing it as it is a little dull in real life. Only the fresh white paint seems to liven it up a bit. I might paint that wall the lovely colour you've suggested, so it will stand out eventually!

PS: The cat HAS to be in every picture! She also loves seating on that dresser, that's why I keep its surface mostly empty!

The color of the blue wall outside the bedroom could also be diluted by 25% or 50% if you wanted a different and lighter look. I think the cohesion of using the same color would look great.

I don't know much about feng shui but Ive got the feeling that anything that evokes Loneliness and depression is a big no no, specially in a bedroom ! No offence Shoa, it is beautifully painted and only my own interpretation. art is such a personal choice, I'm sure others just see a very restful image...

i like the dresser with the bed, but I don't like the rug - not comfy for the toes on arising. Maybe it could be hung on the empty wall and a softer, larger rug slipped under the bottom 1/3 of the bed.

Hi Shoa, À flatmate who was really into feng shui told me off once for having a reproduction of the blue nude by Picasso above my bed. She replaced it with a picture of lovers by Doisneau and not long after that I met my husband. True story... I'm about 99% sure I will still have met him with blue nude on my wall but I guess that's why I am sensitive to the subject !!! But as an artist you have to paint what does inspire you, understandably
