Rose Garden photos

These are all from the Victorian (Australia) State Rose garden show/festival on the 19 November, (nearing the end of our spring). A fair few of the roses were a bit battered due to the up and down weather here; cold /really hot, then just warmish- really wet and humid, then no rain/ big thunderstorm....etc etc..

It made me feel better about my own garden's rather lack lustre performance so far...and there were still enough lovely roses out to make the visit worthwhile.

Ambridge Rose looking lovely in several stages

The garden has lots of climbers swagged, festooned and pillared around the place. They often have two climbers, contrasting in either size or colouring together. This one is a small flowered versus larger flowered

Sympathie and Bloomfield Courage

and this one is colours..

Veichenbleu and Jasmina

and this one is supposed to be Manita and Dorothy Perkins, but Dorothy hasnt got around to flowering yet (lots of buds tho)

and a couple of Australian roses..Governor Macquarie

In the Pink

and Raubritter, just because it looked quite amazing

      Beautiful photos that illustrate such a unique way of displaying some of these roses. The number of blooms is almost overwhelming in the combinations. Ambridge Rose is luscious, as is Governor Macquarie. In the Pink reminds me a little of Bonica. Thanks for posting these photos, curdle. Diane

      Thankyou :) It turned out to be rather warm that day....next couple of days were even hotter- and we had to put the aircon on for the first time. Then there was a big cool change, and we had to put heating on the very next evening for the first time in weeks! No wonder the roses cant keep up...

      Bloomfield Courage does look a bit bougie like :) they use it a lot there..there are several festoons and at least one weeper. Everytime I visit the climbing roses amaze me and I wonder about trying to jam one or two into the garden here... They continued on with the Veichenbleu and teamed it with cl Blue Moon in another section.

      Curdle thank you again for posting these photos! I just purchased Castro Breen Red Climber at the Sacramento Historic Rose Garden Sale... It is thought that this rose may actually be Bloomfield Courage. It was a huge, gorgeous specimen and recommended by Jeri so I got it, but wasn't quite sure where to put it. After looking at your photo again of Bloomfield Courage with Sympathie I decided I'm going to have it climb right along with Florentina on a fence. I just love the look of the large and small blooms together in the same color at the Victorian State Rose Garden. Thank you so much for sharing!

      Your photos of Jasmina & Veichenbleu and Bloomfield Courage are gorgeous! I agree Bloomfield has that bougie look to it. I love Bougainvilleas. I have 13 diff kinds lol. So of course this means I really NEED Bloomfield Courage to tie my bougainvilleas in w my roses right? lol.

      I enjoy seeing roses and other plants growing in Australia! If I ever moved to another country, it would be Australia!

      Thank you again guys- I always get carried away taking pics of all the climbing roses at the State Garden so I have loads of them..

      I like the look of Florentina, Cori Ann, I think it would look great with a Bloomfield Courage look alike.

      Sultry Jasmine- there are bougies all over the place here; they're very popular- my parents have a scarletty pink one over their back fence. I saw a white one with variegated leaves at a nursery last weekend.
