2 Front Doors

I have 2 front doors on my home that was built in 1926. One front door (the one that goes to the bedroom) is the one you can see from the street. This is not the door I typically use but it is the door any delivery person or guest goes to. The main front door is to the right of the second front door, but is hidden from the street. How can I camouflage the door going in to the bedroom and place more focus on the other door?

I think these older houses had two doors so you could easily rent the bedroom with the separate entry. At least that is what my grandmother told me!

Easiest answer is to put a large planter in front of the door and perhaps even a hanging basket. Make it appear more like a window instead of a door. That should discourage visitors. And be sure your main door has the light, the door bell and welcome mat.

Or you could remove the door and fill in the spot with siding painted to match your trim.

It helps to paint the front door a striking color and let the "side door" match the trim. Here, I'd paint the door that leads into your bedroom the trim color rather than the rich brown, which would help it pretend to be a window. :)

Then you might add more ornamentation next to the real front door -- a planter on either side, if there's enough light, and/or a wreath or welcome sign or other obvious decoration...

Love these Tudors! yes it was common on these to have the door to the bedroom. Perhaps paint the trim of the BR door to blend in more w/the brick, plus the planter idea. (do you ever use the door?? if not, maybe convert to window?)

as for the entry door, make it look like an entry door. Perhaps exchange out what you have for a wood door w/a window up top, like the original Tudor doors.

It's confusing now because neither one of those doors looks like a front door. They both look like patio doors.

Switch out the main one, put out a welcome mat, and no one will be confused.

Get a wooden planter box on legs the width of the door. Paint the box same red as door and fill with variety of coleus in summer and greens in fall and winter. Or place various planters there, high enough so that it looks more like a window than a door.

Get a brighter, larger rug in gold and red and put it in front of the real door. Finally, get a sign printed with an arrow pointing right saying: "Ring doorbell on other door."
