That color looks great on this cold day. Do you know it's name?

Very pretty! We've had several hard freezes, my iris were still going strong after the first couple, but 2 hard frosts two nights in a row seemed to do them in. I had Daughter of Stars, Harvest of Memories, and Earl of Essex blooming heavily. I had others that bloomed, but these did the best. I cut most of them almost 2 weeks before Thanksgiving & brought them in, I enjoyed them until last Friday & got tired of changing the water & cutting back the dead buds. There were other stems out in the garden & I meant to bring them in, but forgot.

How do you get irises to bloom so long? My Japanese irises(iris ensata) bloomed for only 2 days in June... they were in full sun. But it was very recently planted so I'm wondering if that had an effect on the bloom period..

Many irises (well some) experience a rebloom in autumn. Look for the ones labeled 'RE' in most iris catalogs. And it is certainly not unheard of for basically any iris (or many plants...including azaleas) to be fooled into thinking autumn is spring and bloom (in my area at least). My aunt has azaleas blooming right now.

Oh wow, beautiful! What a gorgeous deep purple-blue color. What species/name of iris is this?

Not sure, got it a few years ago at home depot
